How does PSA treat a surface "bubble"?

Every once in a while, I will notice a card with a surface "bubble" on it, particularly on 1980's Topps. How does PSA treat those? Do they knock off one grade?

  • depends how bad the bubble is. if it is really easy to see then it sometimes will nock it down to a 7 or 8. if it is slight and not to noticable it can still grade a 9 and if the grader misses it you can still get a 10 i have seen 80's cards with this flaw in PSA 10

I recently submitted a PSA 8 1971 Blyleven for review and it came back in the 8 holder with a sticker pointing to the small surface bubble as the reason it didn't bump. I also have a 1972 Clemente I pulled from a pack that graded an 8. The only flaw is a significant surface bubble. I would say the best you can hope for is a PSA 8 on those cards. I don't believe I've ever gotten a 9 on a card with a surface bubble. Maybe others on here have and can give examples.

Edited to add that I missed the post from 'cardexpert' stating they had seen PSA 10s with a bubble.

no, seriously, I have bought some 9s with a small bubble, not sure if it was somethig missed or accepted. I've sent some in with a slight bubble and they come back 4-6, could be something I am not seeing, but if I had to guess I would say the bubbles knocked those down a couple grades. I would call PSA and see their policy on how they treat these bubbles.

to be continued? let us know how it turns out.
