Red Sox moving up

Nice to see the Red Sox win 2 (so far) from the Rays, who have the best record in baseball right now. Not sure I can watch tonight with Lackey vs Garza...just watching Garza hock up the spitballs every 2 seconds is enough to make me check out the History Channel. I may peek back and forth, but unless Lackey comes out of the funk, it could be a Rays night. BTW, what's with the poor attendance in St. Pete? Red Sox in town, Division rivalry and yet when they show the stadium, the thing looks like about 15k seats or more are empty. Did they finally ban the cow bells?, not a sound I miss and often muted those games.

Nice opportunity for the Red Sox to gain serious ground with the Yankees in Twinkie town and Kansas City in for 4 in Fenway. Opportunity knocks!!

I'm off to Disneyworld to spoil the granddaughter and part with some Benjamins...enjoy da games.

I honestly don't have the energy or time to talk about this right now...I could probably write a few pages and my mind is already numb to it from the local media talking about it for the last 2 months lol. Let's put it this way for now, St. Pete sucks and so do transplants image

Rays fans are very skeptical -- after they win their 108th game, then ticket sales will start picking up. image

The Rays have been good enough for a few years now and have a very good team. They should have more support and it is a shame that they don't.

At this rate, that may be the end of July . . .

The Rays are a great team and they are fun to watch, but it seems to me that going to a game in that stadium wouldn't be all that exciting especially when being outside in Florida is so nice. Maybe it's different in person, but I hate watching games played there on TV.

Goot - I made this same point a couple months ago about TB in a hockey thread about how to make the game better, and was critcized for it. What has changed your mind about the locals?

I remember the thread but I'm not sure what point you're getting at. I don't have anything against transplants (my dad's technically from PA), and nothing has changed my mind, but the fact that the Tampa Bay region is flooded with transplants (most being Yankees and Sox fans) kind of hurts the ability to recruit fans when you're in a division against them. The Lightning play in a division against DC, Atlanta, Carolina and Florida. The Rays in a division against Toronto, NY, Boston and Baltimore...Therefore Bay area hockey fans that may be transplants are only forced to root against their "home" teams once a year, and not when it comes to division races. If you are a Yankees fan and you move to Tampa you can not even take a rooting interest in them considering the fact they play 18 times a year and are in the same division. Now if you are a Islanders fan (although they are a dying breed) and move to Tampa you can go to Lightning games and cheer for them if you want a hockey fix without feeling too guilty because they are not directly competing against one another.

And yes, the dome SUCKS! My buddy and I went over for an afternoon game against Cleveland last week. It was 86 degrees and bright sunny outside before we then walked into a 72 degree dome where we sat for the next 3 hours.
