I saved this beauty from sitting in a lockbox for another 20 years.
Anyone wanna venture a grade? Also, can anyone help with the attribution?

da da da daaaaa, coinkid855 to the rescue.
Nice coin. Have no idea on the grade or atty. congrats.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
It's supposed to be quite porous, but the color looks off.

<< <i>Seems to be an S-34, with the cud above the L and a single berry left of the bow.

I agree that the color looks off. That aside, my grade guess is AU53.

HAVE YOU LOOKED AT THE EDGE FOR ANY LETTER MARKINGS?
Looks like a 35-40. There is one in the Husak auction, Lot# 2036
to compare. The Holmes coins are Lot# 54, 55, and are lower grades.

Has this ever been slabbed, or graded?

<< <i>Do you guys think this would get into a PCGS holder with a grade?

Having seen Early Copper coins in 10x's worse condition and in PCGS holders, I would say it has a fair shot!

<< <i>This is an S-34, R-5 rarity. Despite the recoloring, this coin may be the 2nd or 3rd finest known. It is certainly in the top 6 in the Condition Census. I estimate the value to be around 30 to 40K! Congratulations, coinkid!! >>
Thanks so much!! It's going off to PCGS tomorrow. The person who's having me sell it for them will be quite happy. I only wish this was MY COIN!

Tom, do you have a S-34? I notice you have a S-32 with the OBV-12. I guess there aren't too many of these floating
around. Husak's XF-45 was sold as the finest available and in the catalog writeup they mention only 30 known.

Suggest you plump up the extra $24 for Variety attribution!
Amazing find you have there Sir!

<< <i>Oh, and Jerry, it's been sitting in this lady's lock box for 40 years...It was her father's. Apparently he was a jeweler.

I love stories like this. I know there are still rare treasures (die marriages, dates, etc) which have yet to come to light, but these are nice surprises every once in a while!

But----I think PCGS will probably "gennie" it.

Let us know how it turns out. I'm sure they will look at it carefully. Very cool to find this locked away in the possession of someone who knows nothing about coins. --Jerry

I hope not. I'm hoping for AU53. I'll post the grade the second I get it.

Great find and I'm pleased for your friend.
Having someone who knows coins is a major
benefit to non collectors - as so many get their
treasures maligned by the unscrupulous.
Not many casual coin store owners are that
well versed in the EAC - or what R value this
coin has. The knowledge found on this Forum
can't be underestimated.

Nope. I don't really see too much in hand...Again, my pics don't do this coin justice.
