BST question

Hi,
Should I be suspicious of dealing with Chinese sellers on the BST? With all the Chinese fakes going around, I just want to be vareful. The person I am dealing with is in the US, Just wanted to know if anyone had any issues. No offense to any Chinese members.

It's a shame when a person's prejudices and insecurities impede their numismatic goals. They have nobody but themselves to blame for allowing that to happen.
Anybody anywhere can be handling fake coins. It's not an exclusively Chinese problem.

As you allude, just because they're Chinese doesn't mean that they're selling Chinese fakes. If they have a successful track record on the BST, you can probably trust them. Do a search and read their posts/see if their name appears in successful BST transactions. I understand your question and hesitation. You should never profile (how did you know they were Chinese) anyone for any reason.
Regardless of who the member is in the future, if you have any questions as to their reputation- simply ask for references and follow up.
Incredible amount of ignorance.

I'm not the member in question. There are other Asian forum members but not many.

Once in a seldom while some people wanted to know if Jack Lee was Chinese (Lee is also a Chinese surname), ready to make a disparaging comment something to the line of how disturbing it was to them that a Chinese could own the best American silver dollars, etc. As the folks who were familiar with Jack already knew, Jack was a traditional Southern gentleman from Mississippi. But just for kicks we loved those looks of disenfranchisement when some of us would falsely present Jack as an "honorary Chinese". Even Jack thought it was funny.

Legitimate question to ask this forum since postings on this forum are probably what made you leary to deal with a seller of Chinese origin. I don't consider the question racist. Discriminatory? Certainly, but I don't see that it violates Don's Posting Rules.
Some of the people calling you a racist would probably be singing a different tune if the address of your seller was in China. It's your money, feel free to discriminate where and with whom you spend it. No requirement to be politically correct when spending your hard earned money.

Actually, I'm just plain offended. PC has nothing to do with it. What's next, should I be concerned about doing business with someone because their skin is brown? In that case I'm screwed, because I'm asian and have brown skin.

Thicker skin would help.

How do you tell if a BST seller is Chinese?

Ahrensdad - I've had the "luxury" of fighting in three wars and living to the ripe-old age of 47. I've learned a long time ago not to try to interpret what someone is "saying", but to ask questions to clarify their words. Assuming someone is saying something they're not can be worse that what they're actually saying. The political correctness I alluded to was assuming the OP was in some way racist when his only crime may have been in the way he asked his question... afterall, it was only a question. How can you educate someone if you automatically label them and then discount them as racist? Why do you think I've had the "luxury" of fighting in so many wars?
<< <i>Um...really? See Paul's response above about the coins. As for the other implication...shame on you. Just because someone is of Chinese ethnicity doesn't automatically mean they're selling fakes. >>
Oh,hoarse hockey!
