Caught Bill Maher last night

BILL MAHER, HOST: What about gold? Every time I turn on the TV, somebody's like talking to me about gold. You've got to get your hand on some gold. Sell your gold. Pull your teeth out. You know -- it seems like an antiquated thing. Gold. I mean, it's something from the Middle Ages.

NOURIEL ROUBINI, ECONOMIST: Yeah, I think it's (?), gold has no intrinsic value, and if you're really worried about say inflation rising, I would buy Spam. You know, you can eat Spam, you cannot eat gold. You know, they started producing, no seriously, they, they started producing Spam during the Great Depression. And you can, last for 1,000 years given the chemicals in it. So it's a good store of value. Better than gold. You eat it.

I suggest a new "Spam" forum. Weiss can contribute with "Spam porn saturday." We can discuss storage and display pictures of different kinds of spam cans. Tenth ounce Spam cans, half ounce Spam cans, etc.... Recipes! It'll be great.

  • In this recent video interview Roubini himself talked about the risk of a coming fiscal train wreck and inflation. I wonder how much spam he is buying vs how much gold?

    Roubini interview

I can't resist asking will we now start talking about a gold/spam ratio?

It's entertainment (and it comes with an on/off switch). I personally think he's a funny guy. Probably a little bit on the "happy" side as well.

I like Roubini, I think Maher is 100X funnier then Dennis Miller, and I love gold and I'm a libertarian .........I've never mentioned any of this on a first or second date. MJ

We have one can of spam in the pantry (no one knows how it got there)

    12 oz (340 grams)
Serving size shows 2 oz (56 grams), that would be 6 servings in this metal can.

So, we've got 12 oz's of gold, I mean spam that no one wishes to eat. Instead of listing on the BST, it will go for the highest bidder here. You can PM me, but the starting bid is $12,000 (under spot price) In your local food store current buy price of this spam is $3.51.

Dennis Miller has come a long way. He's been on the radio for three years and is not the Dennis of old. I really enjoy his word-smithing. When the news is too much to digest I go DM for his take...usually with humor.
