Card finally arrived in plain white envelope...month & half after being sent..see scans!!

Well, I just got this one in the mail today. Check out the first scan in the USPS bag with their appology for the damage to my mail....check out the BURNT edges on the envelope inside the bag!! Progression of scans shows opening the plastic bag and then several opening the burnt & wrinkled envelope! I had written this card off and never even bothered to neg the buyer for non-delivery. Check out the later scan showing the letter explaining how the mail truck burst into flames and it took 9 hours to clear the scene!! Needless to say, I figured my Hawk rookie was destroyed...but low & behold, shipped inside a toploader and then inside a team bag it fended off the water and the card was fine!!!

Wow, now THAT is impressive that it made it to you at all!

Scary to think what happened to the rest of the mail - hope nothing else important / irreplaceable was on that truck!

That is a neat story and worth holding onto the card and the letter from the postal service.

Glad you got the card intact.

  • That story actually made top story on the nightly news when it happened here in PA. They showed all the smoldering mail/Fedex packages (don't remember if Fedex had subcontracted the truck or vice versa). There was even a coin collection that was sent Fedex in the burning truck that was scattered all about the highway.

Not sure if it's in the story in this link

It would sell in the $25-$30 range on eBay if desired, I imagine.

Anyone remember about five years ago when Europe went on a postal strike? I received about two dozen things back, they just sent everything return to sender, as with cool stickers explaing the strike. They sold around $15 each for me which I thought was good (since millions (?) of pieces of mail were tagged).

Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

The real test----send to PSA and see if it comes back with a "ST" or not.

read the thread last night via sidekick while waiting in line to buy groceries, didn't remember seeing that the card was OK, maybe I missed it, maybe my eyes completely failed me, just coming out of a semester of reading over 50,000 pages of American Literature can do that. Maybe it was added when edited, don't know, only asked a question.

Contribute something worthy to the thread, the board, your family, life, instead of reading all of my posts and taking jabs. You're an __ and seriously need to get a life. My dad bought me some Gretzky reprints, or counterfeits, whatever they are (I didn't make them,) and ever since I sold a few to board members (stamped reprint) for novelty reasons you have been harassing me non-stop. There is nothing wrong with selling those but you have been on a never-ending quest to comment on almost every comment I make here. Most of your comments make you look like a fool but your clique of other longstanding post-padded members (who do the same, contribute very little to the board but instead choose to jab and bully others) add and carry on with your nonsense. To avoid you I have to do nearly all of my communicating via PM with members. Is that right?

Are you even a PSA member? Do you collect PSA graded cards? Building a set in the registry?

    Why are you here?

Heaven forbid you point out the obvious...shame on you! Didn't you stop to think that maybe someone was preoccupied? Perhaps they were busy avoiding carbs? Perhaps they were busy making up some more excuses for their laziness? Perhaps they were busy trying to figure out how to play off that they're picked upon by everyone else? Now hush up and go back to all the miscut cards you collect you silly old man...

That's a crazy story. I guess the flames didnt melt the plastic, or melt the plastic to the inside of the envelope.

The odds of that must be 1 in a million. People get mail their whole lives, but never get it damaged like that in a fire.
