At what point do I file a complaint about eBay buyer? - UPDATED

Bayard1908Bayard1908 Posts: 4,082 ✭✭✭✭
Bidder with very low feedback won one of my coins. After a week of waiting for payment, I sent him an email asking if there's a problem. He says his wife is in labor. I'm sympathetic to the fact that new parents are busy; however, it has now been 10 days without payment. I'm thinking I should send one more reminder and then file a nonpaying bidder report at the two week point.

Bidder just sent me an email asking to cancel the sale. His username is tonedcoins12345

Apparently he hasn't paid at least one other forum member.

You can file an NPB at I think 7 days, and no matter what the story was from the buyer, I would have done it just as a butt cover.

I give a reminder at one week and file at two weeks. I feel that is more than fair.

I've been bugging the heck out of him for five days already, send a invioice every day, and at ten I'm filing the NPB.
Why hit the BIN and not pay up right then. And this is the third one of these in the last month.

Sorry for the mis-understanding Mine is a diferent flake that I am still waiting on. Worded it wrong earlier.

I've had two non pay bidders this month. Really a sad situation. You can open a NPB case after 4 days and as long out as 32 days.

If his wife just had a baby, the last thing he is thinking about is paying for a coin.

    Give it time.

Man, that's some long labor!!! It's been 7 days. He at least should pay or he owes your the courtesy of telling you he's going to be unable to pay it. I've had three kids and never did I not have at least 2-3 minutes of down time to at least pay a bill online, make a quick call, etc.

If his wife just had a baby, the last thing he is thinking about is paying for a coin.

I also see this applying in the reverse. If you are expecting a baby the last thing he should be thinking about is bidding on coins.

Its a simple process.....pay when you win.

It takes about the same amount of time to send a payment via PayPal as it does to respond to your email. Send another reminder ASAP, and tell him you'll be filing a nonpaying bidder report shortly. If he barks back at you, call him a "dead-beat dad."

I'd give it a bit more time, or if you really need to move the coin, relist and just cancel the transaction. I feel like I'd be a bit sympathetic to him putting his priorities in the right order (even though he still needs to follow through with you) and probably wouldn't give an NPB strike. Maybe that's just because I have two friends with newborns and another who's due any day.

  • He's teaching his newborn to be a flake. He can't afford a kid and the coin. Do him a favor and file a NPB now.

the deadbeats are why my listings require immediate payment by pay-pal. I don't like the hassles of deadbeats.

Why buy the coin if you know you can't pay.

Another reason E-Bay sucks...the seller can't win....you wait and wait and get nothing and the buyer is let off scott free.

if this was reversed the boards would be saying neg neg neg.

You've him enough time...BIN should = Pay It Now or at least communicate.

I've basically stopped using e-bay and my finger hovers over the "delete account" every once in a while. I do not use them for coins anymore. They have been going downhill for a few years. Especially for sellers. Oh well.

I quit getting worked up over those type of ebay deals. Just cancel and go on. Buyers like that can cause you more grief than a completed sale. Blame ebay they are the ones that make it easy to overbid and cancel, return for any reason, ask for a lower price after the sale, etc.
