Its called a "printer scrap", and yours has Hall of Famer Cheif Bender on the back.
Very desirable!
***edited to say, dont sell to the first offer, there will be alot, especially if you show it on
net54baseball.com
PS. Its the 2nd best one Ive ever seen, and Ive seen these for 30+ years (hundreds)
Leon Luckey, the owner of net54, has one that has Cy Young on the back along with multiple brands.
These are hard to predict on how much someone will spend if its at a GOOD auction.
Is there an asking price? Its easier for me to tell you "thats a great deal" than to tell you what it might sell for in a Major Auction House (slabbed by SGC/PSA).
I dont want to throw out a price because these are all "unique" and the better the image, the more screwed up it is (multi-layered,upside down), and the better the players, the more its worth.
if you want to see some numbers ($), post the picture over at Net54 and ask simply "what do you think this T206 print defect is worth"?
PS the unusual thing about this Nattress/Bender is it looks to be machine cut and may have been issued in a pack of cigarettes. Most of these were cut from sheets used by printers to test the ink ... "printer scrap"
I dont collect these, but Id pay $1500 knowing I could flip it.
If someone said guess the high bid and I win it, Id say $2200, but dont take that as its value,
Its 100% unique, like every single printer scrap (none are exactly the same). Like Bobby said, there are known prices for similar examples but they all have different combos of overprint and wet sheet images, the more psychedelic the better, especially if there are HOFers involved. Plus this one is in nice shape for a scrap, only corner wear and some chipping on back that doesnt affect Bender image.
But they are slightly related, at least the authentic ones are. They are not a true back variation like some thought for years, they are a printers scrap (screwup). Brown OM back with a red SC factory/district # bar overprint (some have 2 overprints).
If he (t206museum.com owner) research a bit better before trying his scam he may have gotten away with it.
Funny thing, I was the first to point out that the Sweet Caporal overprint should be red not black, and the landslide that followed it killed T206Meseum.com's rep for life.
He should have gone to jail IMO
It has a bit more going for it than the Nattress/Bender. ............Cy Young and the extremely rare brown Old Mill back, plus more.
On the Nattress/Bender... $3000 is too much IMO, ?? but you never know, someone may pay that or even more ???
The keys of the Nattress/Bender one......... it looks factory cut, it has 2 complete (full color/process) wetsheets of Bender on back, and also an upside down Sovereign 350 print over an original Piedmont 350, also the same Sovereign 350 printed on the front over the completed original Nattress image.
FYI, Wetsheets will be backwards and werent done by the printing machine, they were done when the sheets were stacked together while wet and the image mirrored. Obviously this sheet was flipped at one time to get 2 backwards Benders.
