    Many thanx, Jon.

Jules was a long time fixture in NYC coin dealers and had advertised for years in the numismatic publications. I, for one, will miss him.
PNG member, numismatic dealer since 1965. Operates a retail store, also has exhibited at over 1000 shows.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Heard of him, but never did business with him.

For a brief second I thought you were mentioning Julian Leidman, with whom I did do business at least once, but I'm happy to see him alive and posting to this thread.

  • This is the first I heard of the news and it is very sad indeed. I met Jules over 20 years ago. He was famous for his "schlumpy" appearance. But what he lacked in dress he made up for in class. He was one of the sweetest guys I met in those early days of my career and also one of the few "big timers" who treated my dad well when he was just getting started. I am sorry to hear this news. He died too young...

I did a silver panda deal with him over the phone a couple years ago. He was honest and prompt with our transaction.

I'm sorry to hear of this news. While I never met him or did any buisness with him, I was aware of him (and his name, I should say) and I heard nothing but good things.

  • Just seeing this now. Did business with both him and his son on Seventh Avenue and in the Financial District. Class acts. He exuded those old collector qualities no longer to be found today. Sad news, indeed!

Mikee, maybe you didn't know but @Bear is also with the angles so I doubt he cares too much about a typo at this point.

Time flies, or flyes when you’re getting up in years! ;-)
Whatever the case…. RIP and condolences to all that were close to him.

Didnt Jules Karp for many years bill himself as the "Carson City King" - I know I bought many GSA's off of him in the 1998-2006 time frame

Don’t understand. If he passed in 2010 why is this thread posting?

He would run Coin World ads to sell gold in all denominations. Once I ordered 20 vf $5 Liberties from him @ $125 each.

If I recall correctly, JJK used to send their periodic price lists ftom the United Nations building using UN stamps that they presumably got at a discount from old collections. It added am interesting feature to their mailings.

The only post office in the U.S.A. that uses U.N. stamps, so they were deeply discounted on the secondary market. The discounts for both U.S. and U.N. postage have increased even more today.

Yes, I remember Jules selling selling U.S. gold at very competitive prices and Jules once briefly owned NASCA (around 1978-79?), a NY auction house with whom I did business.

Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.

This is an ex. Jules Karp piece. Just noticed it while looking at images of my collection:
