PCGS Regency Slab... Did anyone see this auction?

It was up for a couple of hours before it was "BIN'd"

ebay auction

Is the "Specimen" Coin a different strike? or just one selected for slabbing ie, an example of the coin?

The slab says it is a specimen coin.

Neat coin and slab, but I find it difficult to pay out $150 for a novelty slab. However, if one of my coins was in that slab, that would be a different story. In fact, I think $150 would be too cheap. image

I did not see that or I would have snatched it up as well.

From what I understand, when these holders were available, the requestor could request just about anything they wanted.

From the PCGS Slab Generations thread:

"PCGS 9 This slab really belongs between #'s 4 and 5 but this is where you're going to get it. This was the Regency Slab, a special premium slab that was intended to allow the collector to recognize "special" coins. Either to showcase very rare pieces, special pedigree coins or even special events. The Regency slab is a large slab, five inches high and three across at the widest point. They cost $50 ($30 slabbing fee plus $20 for the special holder and personalized inscription) and you were allowed to specify a two line inscription to appear on the front label. (Maximm 44 characters.) According to Rick Montgomery these were produced from 1992 to 1995 but so far I've only been able to trace them from Mid 1994 to the first quarter of 1995."

As for the coin in the slab? Danny Kaye was no slouch and just having one of his collectibles would be worth the $150.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I think in this case the "Specimen" designates one of a group of coins. If I remember correcly we have seen slabs with the same type of coins in them before.

Yeah that was worth the 150 IMO ...those don't come up very often!

This was probably a fair price as this slab is part of a special Danny Kaye presentation case package containing a picture of Danny Kaye, a wooden portable stand piece which if included would have brought the value to at least $250 or more depending on the condition or the presentation case.
