Card Shops in the Austin,TX Area?

I'm in the Austin Texas area for the next couple of weeks for training for my new job. Does anybody know any good shops to check out? Do they have high end cards, vintage, boxes......? Also i noticed in the last beckett that they listed a card show for this upcoming saturday. Does anybody know anything about it? Thanks for any help.

There's a card shop on 183 North owned by a very nice guy. The shop is filled with overpriced, overproduced stuff for the most part. Sometimes I go there for storage supplies.

In other Austin news, I'll be holding a Ronnie James Dio tribute celebration tonight in about 15 minutes. I've got a cold sixer, a handful of Tums, and Holy Diver set to repeat.

I have a feeling that my index and pinky fingers will be cramped up tomorrow morning.

Everyone of them sucks really bad.

I live in South Austin and drive up the the shop on 183 & Spicewood Springs that was talked about above for supplies. It is called Card Traders of Austin. 8605 Spicewoods Springs. Nice guys but it is the type of place that prices everything as MINT and full book. They don't go down much. For example they had a Bird/Majic rookie there a few months back that was well centered but had the usual printer marks, rough corners, etc. They wanted $250 firm and thought I was joking when I offered $150. Hell I was trying to do them a favor and give them some business as I can find cleaner cards on eBay every day for less. Walt the main guy HATES grading and PSA in particular - especially auto authentication. They do have graded card sleeves that they probably keep in stock for me. image Also the auto/game used cards are crazy priced. Stuff that goes on eBay for $1 will be $15 to $20. Lots of 90's rookies. Most of their business seems to be packs. I try and buy all my supplies there and take my 8 & 9 year old boys with me and let them blow $20 on $1 or $2 "star" cards (current Jeter, Ortiz, Ichiro, Longoria, etc.) Keeps my boys interested and again gives the shop some business.

There also a shop on Burnet south of 183. Guy is rude and has a weird membership program. I only go there if I really need some supplies and the other place is out/closed.

I think all the other shops are now comics/wizards/pokemon crap. A few comic places in town as well (not my thing).

I would be interested to see if the "show" makes. Seems like I see the ad from time to time and it get's canceled a lot. I would guess it is at the Red Lion on 290 but I don't know. I have never been to one as I have tried to go twice and both were canceled. I don't know if this is the same people.

Yeah, I forgot about that one. I went there once a few years ago, needing some penny sleeves, and the guy was a total dong. I left without buying a thing.
