Saw Black Sabbath on the Mob Rules tour in '81 and then again as Heaven & Hell in '07 and '08...absolutely fantastic. I took my kids to 2008 show, glad they had a chance to see one of the finest heavy metal/hard rock singers of all time.

Very sad news, RIP Dio, you will be missed.

This was posted over at Freerepublic.com today:

Many years ago I was getting out of my car to check into my hotel in Daytona Beach, FL. It was raining and very dark. I am confined to a wheelchair and was struggling to hurry with my luggage from my car when this very creepy guy runs up to me, scaring me to death, and grabbed my luggage and said, “I’ll follow you.” I checked in, with the creepy guy in two, and went to my room. He brought in my luggage and told me if I needed anything to call him in his room. He gave me the details, and invited me for a drink in the bar. Reluctantly I said OK figuring I owed the guy a drink. When we entered the bar, EVERYONE looked...It was then I found out he was Ronnie James Deo. He gave me back stage ticket to his show and provided me a ride with him in his limo....I have never met a nicer person in my entire life. RIP, my friend...

  • Saw him at cobo hall in Detroit in 2007 with Black Sabbath. All 4 of his studio albums with Sabbath are fantastic.

He was diagnosed about 5 months ago. Very sad day for music fans.

  • Knew he'd been sick a little while now...still so sad. By all accounts a great person was behind that amazing voice. Sabbath changed so much when he joined...loved "Children Of The Sea", "Neon Knights" and all the others. And of course his first few DIO albums were amazing..."You're just a rainbow in the dark!"

    RIP

  • I must say I am ashamed that I did not collect his cards while he was alive. From the tributes pouring in, he seems like a great fella. If I can just piggy back this thread with someone else who has died, please let me announce the passing of Rosa Rio who was a terrific silent film organist who worked on NBC shows and became the chief organist at NBC for many radio and television soap operas. Rosa died of natural causes in Sun City Center, Fla., on May 13. She was 107.
My heartfelt thoughts go out to her family. RIP.

$4 shipping for a single graded card is way too high IMO. Please discuss.

A lot joked that the only highlight Pat Burrell ever brought to the Rays was that his walk up music was Holy Diver!

    RIP.
