LSRC PCGS LAS VEGAS SHOW REPORT
Even though Las Vegas is 300 miles away from me,I consider it a local show.
Setup was Weds at 2pm,so I left Los Angeles at about 8:30am to get there early.Very nice easy drive gave me a chance to hear a few of my new Jazz cd's,and catch up on phone calls. In my next life,I will be a Jazz trumpet player !
When I arrived at 1:45,there were already quite a few dealers in the room.
I asked why setup was 2pm,and the room was already half filled with people doing business.
I was told that they got the room early..noon,so they opened it up.
I will be there next time at noon for sure.
Within minutes, dealers were asking to see my coins.
I had a little lunch ,and was off to see Heritage.
They bought quite a few coins from me..mostly peace dollars and walkers.
If you only think they pay wholesale for coins, they paid me PQ money for some nice coins. Some of which I was going to submit for Plus grades.
After concluding my business there,I was approached by another dealer looking for early and key date walkers,as he knew I had some. I sold him 10 or so coins for a want list customer.
After just 2 dealers,I was more than half way to a 6 figure show, which is good for me,as I am just a small dealer
,dealing in coins from $100.00 - 25k for the most part.
I went back to my table to reorganize my coins,as they get out of order very quick
A type dealer came by asking me if I was doing type again, and I said I was well on my way to stocking very cool type coins.
He purchased a trade dollar,barber dime,and a 3 cent silver.
He wanted more, but I told him most of my type was being shown by other dealers at 2 other shows that were at the same time as Vegas.
David Hall came by next,as he always likes my Peace dollars.
He walked away with some very cool coins including 2 monster toned Morgan dollars.
I then had a brand new coin customer come by my table and wanted to spend $2000.00
I asked him what he collects, and he said nothing yet.
I talked to for at least 1 hour to try and find out as much as I could about him,to make sure I could provide him with my best service.
He walked away with 4 very cool walkers that I sold him wholesale to start him off on the right foot.
David Hall was walking by again, and I introduced the two .
David told him to start a peace dollar set,and buy them from me,as I really know that series.
I think he and his son want to do that, and I now think I have a long term customer.
I did some biz with Angel Dees, which is always fun.
We both ended up with very cool Indian cents ! Thanks Andy
I love proof Indians, and think they are way underpriced.
Erik "ElmerFusterpuck" and his dad came by
and looked at my toned dollars.
The narrowed their choices to 2,and then couldn't decide.
I held the coins for them,as they went out for lunch.
Once they came back, they had made a decision,on a very cool 100% toned Obverse morgan with neat golds and blues.
Two very nice people..
I bought a few coins on the floor, and quickly flipped them to Heritage.
The next day, maybe 8 dealers already went home,so I had to try and see everyone before they hit the airport.
I talked to John at David Lawrence, and purchased 4 nice coins..3 type, and only 1 peace dollar.
Maybe I like David Lawrence because my name is Lawrence David ??
I looked at auction lots from B&M,and had a nice chat there with old friend Kyle Knapp.
After that,I looked around the room to try and buy a few coins that might Plus grade.
I purchased only 2 coins on this trip around, and they both plussed
) They were super PQ,and one is now a pop 1 coin !
I checked out Legend looking for more Morgan toners, but there was only one in her case.
She did have some very cool coins, but they were just a few steps above what I do.
I was so busy either buying, looking, selling, trying to fill want lists etc.,that I never even saw all the dealers in the room.
I wish all the dealers would stay until Friday, but that was not to be.
I had a great show, which is what I was hoping for.
I started a few,and renewed a few relationships.
For my grading results..
7 plus coins,2 upgrades, and a few raw coins graded that were genuine last time around.
These Mercs came out of original mint sets,so they deserved to be graded .
I did send in a raw 1799 $10 gold that I just wanted in a genuine holder,as it have been around mostly as a jewelry piece.
Came back no decision,as the coin is so worn and beat up.
I did have 2 or 3 guys interested in the coin either way.
I also saw Wei Chang, but he was in and out so fast,I couldn't even say HI !
Today will be a full day of work getting ready for Nashville.
Thanks for reading, and hope to see more of you at the next PCGS show in July.

An interesting report from the dealer point of view, it semed like some of the others said it was good for them too. Would be interesting if the PCGS brass would weigh in on what they thought of the show.

Wow, it’s been a while since my last post. I need to do this more often!
Here we are again in Vegas wrapping up another Members Only show. The show opened to the public on Thursday. There was quite a buzz going already when two of the stars of the TV show Pawnstars walked in. I had an interesting conversation with the founder and owner, known as “The Old Man”. Pawnstars are located in Vegas and have seen tremendous growth as a result of the TV exposure. We were happy that they decided to have their coins graded by PCGS.
All the dealers reported strong sales and purchase activity. Yes, on the surface this looks like a small show but there is much more activity than you might imagine. I spoke with at least a couple dealers who bought and sold over $2 million here. Both dealers and collectors seemed pleased with the results. I have had several dealers tell me that they pick up at least one major new customer at every Members Only show.
As expected, there were quite a few submission under the new Secure Plus service with many new coins being made in + grades. Look for the PCGS pop report updates in the next few days.
We are all saying our goodbyes and looking forward to the next Members Only show in July!

This was my second PCGS Las Vegas show. I drove in from Los Angeles, and within minutes of entering the room,I was already selling coins. I had a great show selling, and also picked up some very cool coins.I picked up 3 to 4
new customers, which is always good.I was very happy with the results, and have already made plans for their next show in July. Be there ! Larry

I'm curious, did anyone attend the education programs? If so, how were they?
The Penny Lady®
Sorry I missed this one. The last two weren't so great IMO.....argghh. MJ
Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Off to Nashville tomorrow !

Amy and I were in Idaho the first two days, otherwise we'd probably have been there too.
Good luck in Nashville!

<< <i>Anybody got any pictures of the two "Pawn Stars" at the show? Laura posted one on her site, but was there another one besides the "Old Man"? >>
He was 40's something with dark hair, thin build, and facial hair. Have not seen him on the TV program before.
bob
...... and that's how rumors get started.
I was probably watching Law and Order instead
