CC State Bank Roll?

Currently on eBay

Was just browsing this afternoon and came across this auction. I have never seen this before? Does anyone have any additional information about these rolls?

That has been resealed. The left side should be tighter than that. I do not know anything about the series, but I would bet my life that it has been cherrypicked. JMHO. -Dan

There were several previous threads on these. As I remember the conclusion was the wrappers were phony. "Nevada" is printed in a modern font.

OMG, someone paid $5,900 for that? Just because there was an 1879 on one end? Cant wait to see the feedback image

Gotta love the return conditions as well.....to get a refund, roll must be un-opened..kinda guarantees the suckers won't open the roll...that's a lot of money for an 1879-s morgan....

ad copy> I personally think its better to sock away the roll since there are very few unopened rolls left and that value will only increase as more get opened.

In other words, the seller is compelling you NOT to open the roll, hence you will have no idea what it contains (planted) in between the end coins. For some strange reason, greed prevails on these types of internet auction venues...common sense is left at the door.

I wonder if this auction comes with unused Nevada Bank wrappers so that the winner (?) can open it up, take what's wanted, and re-roll with the same two end coins and some used Ikes, and then put it back on e-bay for auction?

  • The guy said he listed and sold five other such rolls. That's five other chances at getting negative feedback, and that hasn't happened, yet. Then again, these five satisfied customers could all be idiots, I suppose, too...

PS: FWIW, I wouldn't take it back were it opened, either.

I would expect to see some nice toning on the endrollers if the roll was truly original and unopened...

Buyer: Seller is a fr**d! 1879 coin was S mint and not CC.
Seller response: Buyer is an idiot. Coin is clearly a rare 1879-CC mistakenly struck with S reverse.

image I love it, I could see that happening, too!
  • I did a fair amount of research for these types of rolls. There are a lot of PL's and DMPL's with great VAM's but sadly not all CC's. Toning is definitely in question because original rolls should have some amount of toning, but it's not impossible. Buyers just have to be careful with what they choose to purchase. The likelihood of the 1879 CC coming up is very slim.

But I'd rather use the money to buy this...

Wow, what a coin! I was thinking about reporting that one too. Is there a category for "The seller obviously is receiving perverse pleasure knowing I cannot afford to pay for such a great '79-CC dollar"? imageimage
