I need a tutorial on acronyms used here

Hi...Im obviously new here, but very interested in learning more. I need to start with all the acronyms that are used here. Can someone C&P what they all mean please? I saw someone saw, "turn on your PM" whats that? What is a Paypal gift?
I would greatly appreciate any help you all could provide to get me going here. Thanks

If you look at the upper right-hand side of the display for each post you will see a bunch of icons. The one which looks like a lock is a "private message" function or "PM." You enable it by going into your profile (second soft-key from left on the top right-hand side of each page), and enabling it.

In order to avoid paying fees, some seller's here request you use the "gift" selection when sending money via PayPal. I don't do it and I would advise that you not do it either, because if you have a problem with the sale, you can't get PayPal to help you since it was money sent as a gift to the other party. (Sellers pay the fees on ebay, they should probably pay them here too, if they want the convenience of using PayPal.)

When doing deals here, I don't think most parties care about PayPal protection since the trust factor is or should already be there. It is about the fee which oftimes is the difference between losing and breaking even. Not all of us care enough about convenience to pay thru the nose for it.

Thank you all for the help and advice given so far, I sincerely appreciate it. I'm looking forward to sharing and gaining knowledge about the hobby with you all, and hopefully doing some business too. If anyone else wants to add to this thread...things that you think would be helpful for a newbie, please do so.

I wish that were the case, but I've had more deals go south here than on ebay.

steve; really sorry that that happens to you

Ive had many times I would list something on ebay with a BIN (Buy it now) and a best offer option.

I would tell people that if they send the payment as a "gift" it would save them close to 13% which is a HUGE difference the higher the coin value is.

yes but then they lose the "buyer protection" that the service provides. I'd say if I was doing business with someone I have bought from before and I was happy with the coin, service and transaction, then I would do the gift thing to help both of us out. But not necessarily with an initial purchase. When the door is open for the seller to mess you over, 13% is just isnt worth it...when you could lose 100%. all jmho
