I have finished my 1972 graded NRMT baseball set

The final card for the set arrived in the mail today. Hank Aaron IA #300. It was tough to find and it wasn't centered too well, but this has been a bear for me to find. Thanks to all the other board members that helped me with the set! Especially Brett(YMarea) for many of the cards. TigerDean also helped me fill a tough card with a nice trade. Antoher Ebayer/I think board member sent me several PSA 8 1972's for free. I don't have his name, but if he is reading thank you!!

I just bought this Rob Gardner off of Brett and he threw in the Rod Carew IA card. (WHAT A GUY!) 6-7-10 Brett strikes again with a 1972 Ray Culp PSA 8.

I'm also going to picture some of the tougher cards I've recently purchased. Like Ed Spiezio in PSA 8, and upgraded to PSA 9. Ted Abernathy was also a tough one for me to find.

    Michael,

I'll keep my eyes peeled for any of the cards you need. '72 has always been my favorite set. I've never been crazy about the psychadelic (sp?) design, but the set holds for me the fondest memories. With its wide array of stars and myriad subsets, there is so much to like.

The Gardner is certainly tough to find in 8 or better. When I submitted that one I never expected a 9 because of the L/R centering, and believe the card belongs in an 8 holder. Still, I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth!

More thanks to Brett(YMAREA). These two complete my 1972 set and deduct one from those needed to complete the 1972 set in PSA 8 or equivalent grade. Down to 24 left!

    Michael,

I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but the tilt on that Michael is really dizzying. It was so bad that I wasn't sure if it was simply a severe tilt or a diamond cut. I had to study it for quite some time before I was convinced that it would get slabbed. I'm glad I sent it in. Its a pretty nice-looking card if you focus on the picture and keep away from the borders.

Thanks to Brett(Nolan Ryan) and Ebay(Steve Garvey) I've got two more. Also making a trade with TigerDean for another card I need. Thanks to Brett and Dean for the cards!

I was a Murcer fan when I was a kid, and that '72 has always been my favorite Murcer card. Nice pick up.

Got one REAL Toughie for me the Foli card, and it's centered good enough. The Bench has also eluded me.
I picked up a great Red Sox Team in PSA 8, near perfect centering, but it had two creases over the S in Sox. I also had some marks and specs on a Cardenal, Menke, and Ted Williams, so I'm at 20 to complete the set. Anyone want to sell or trade let me know.

  • Congrats on the 72 set very tough being 787 cards not counting variations. Card 582 Expos team is the bear of the set, best I ever had was a PSA 7 but centered. Foli IA I believe is in the top 10 for toughies. I stopped 2 short of completing my 72 set before breaking it up and selling it off needed 495 & 698 & the money had over 14K tied in to my set.
The 72 set was my favorite set from my childhood, I bought a ton of packs in 72 but very few survived in good enough condition to be graded 30+ years later.

Good luck on finishing up your set in PSA 8 or better.
  • Those are awesome looking cards my friend! I am certain that you have others, but I thoroughly enjoyed looking at the Steve Garvey, Nolan Ryan, and the Johnny Bench card. I only collect older cards, and 1972 is my cut off year. Good luck on updating all of them!

that mays IA could may be get a higher grade if resubmited.
  • MphilkingMphilking Posts: 1,570 ✭✭✭
Thanks for the kind words. LW, The Mays is a nicely centered card and the scan looks great. The corners don't look as sharp to me as in the scan. I wish it was a 9 though!

Got a beautiful 1972 Expos Team from BackBidder!
    Thanks

  • Sweet looking Expos team card and nicely centered to boot, also that Mays in action is sweet, might send that in for bump. the Mays IA is another tough card to find centered and that one looks dead on.

    Thanks DiamondMan.
I received a very nice Steve Carlton today. It's SGC 8.5. Besides some very light dings on the right side, it's GORGEOUS!
Even with the dings it's one of the best I have.

The way you described the Aaron IA, I thought it would be much worse than that.

I started this set raw, but put it aside to concentrate on unopened packs. Congrats on finishing a great set!!! image
