Bought the Ted Williams for my Father in Law for Father's Day

I want to thank all of you, except for gecko who I hope gets a huge paper cut on his scrotum, for your input in this matter.

My FIL is very frugal so my hope was to get him a nice looking Williams for what I believe was a decent price.

I was getting sniped on all the Williams cards I was bidding on. I then focused on a 58 Williams All Sta card.

Levi had this one PSA 3 and the VCP was $28 but with only 3 sales. I had it on my watch list as I know it was going nowhere soon at that price but could get it for delivery by Father's Day.

This morning I expanded my search to SGC and foung this SGC 60 and it had the eye appeal I was looking for and I bought it on the spot.

I hope to video my father in law opening it and if I do I will share.

Thanks for your input into me buying my 1st graded card.

Cool story. I love my Dad and he is no longer alive. We would share many baseball memories together. When I was a young boy I would show my dad my cards while at the breakfast table. Wow, I miss him. Have a great time with your father and the Williams card.

Nice work. I tell people, if you want a really nice attractive vintage HOF card for a reasonable price, 58 A.S.'s are where its at. And this Williams is a great example. If you are looking for other affordable Williams during his playing days, I recommend the 59 Fleer All-Star Record card and the 60 and 61 Fleers.
Kiss me once, shame on you.
    Kiss me twice.....let's party.
  • I hate all-star cards. As a suggestion to others, I recommend a PSA 1 or 2 of the FC - final card with full career stats.

Why thank you for noting that and as my father in law is a huge Ted Williams fan and not a card collector it really doesn't matter what you think!!

Yes sir, yes sir. Those '58 A.S. cards are very attractive...I've owned quite a few over the years and as you say they are amazingly affordable for single player cards from the "golden era" of baseball. I just picked up the Mantle a couple months back...because it's a Triple Print that card can be found for under a hundred dollars in nice shape!! That's value!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Thanks all. He is a HUGE Williams fan so I take every opportunity to get him some Williams stuff when I can. He has a mini "shrine" to Ted in his garage.

He used to work at the Boston Herald and has a Ted Auto on a slip of paper that one of the sports reporters got for him. He also has an auto'd ball that I never took a real close look at because I don't really want to know if it is fake.

I will take a pic of said "shrine" this weekend. This card will stay inside the house though!!

Agreed with those that approve. All-Star cards can be some of the best looking cards ever. I love the 58 Musial and the 60 Mantle as some of my favorite cards of these players ever.
