<< <i>well i am just a newbie who missed out on the 2008 silver eagles, got lucky with the wisconsin, missed the minnesota, got the lincoln pennies a few of each and starting a collection of type b quarters, now whats the difference in a U on the back of the eagles, a leaf on the quarters, an extra tree or and extra finger ? some type b sellers want 200 or more dollars for a MS 65 b type, to me there all error coins. So what if the interests isn't there right now, how long have the type b quarters been around, and i a newbie am just starting a collection, there will always be another generation of people who get interested in one or more series. again time will tell and from reading most of those who own these there not in a hurry to unload them. image >>

I'm in no hurry, you make some great points on the type B's 1956 was along time ago. >>

Yes it was but given the silver melts of 1964 and later years, the 1956 Type B's appear to be far and few between.

I only say this because at one time, 1964 was considered a tough year and prices really reflected that. But, once the money started rolling in, folks started looking at their 1964's and found more and more Type B's for grading and eventual selling.

On 8/11/2008 there were only 10 1964 Type B Coins graded by PCGS. That was 3 less than the 1956 Type B coins which was 13. When that got out, folks started looking for and buying these and paying decent money which created a "hunt". By 1/29/2009, more than 82 1964 coins had been graded yet, 1956 remained at a paultry 16. The 1956 was known about, and searched for the same as the 1964 yet the populations never did take off.

Today, across all grade levels, 112 1964's have been graded yet only 46 1956's. I believe that it's not because folks aren't looking. I believe it's because folks ARE looking...........but not finding.

    Why?
Were there not that many produced?
Did a lot get melted in 1964 since no apparant die varieties existed (DDO/DDR)?
Did a lot get melted in the 80's again since no apparant die varieties existed (DDO/DDR)?
    Why?

Perhaps in another 2 or 3 years the pops will rise but the current trends in the populations is not favoring coins MS65 or better but in the opposite direction.

What about these skeleton fingers in comparison?

Well, the last I heard, there hasn't been a big run on copper plated zinc coins as melting candidates so unless that happens, it stands to reason that every one produced will survive and should "interest" survive beyond the next couple of years, they should be readily available for any collector at more than reasonable prices. Grade, as with anything, will be the dominate factor.

    What am I saying?

Hell I don't know. I just know that before sinking $9.00 per coin, I'd wanna be sure I could unload them for at least $9.00 per coin in a couple of years if I need to. Whether PCGS attributes them or not!

And BTW, nothing malicious intended since the Type B audience seems to have gone on vacation with no immediate plans on returning!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

There not on vacation your teaching a whole new group of newbies, just as these pennies have peaked my interest so did the thread on the b quarters, another newbie hooked, which is why we all hope pcgs grades these, it was a blast to find and collect them as well with the b's my parents left me 70 rolls of quarters that have sat in a rolltop desk for 7 yrs, with the help of this forum and people telling me about the cherrypickers guide i have now started going thru these rolls and now feel confident about what to look for. It has taken years and yes the 1956 is a tough one to even see in ms65 but now i want one lol just as someday someone will want these pennies......... I LOVE THIS FORUM image
