New grades - German State talers & medals

I finally sent away some talers for grading, and the results came back today. I am thrilled with the final outcome. These German State sede vacante talers and medals tough to find, and certificed pieces simply do not exist. These are not the best pictures, but the best I could do in the current lighting.
1650 – Munster taler
This is perhaps one of the toughest in the group. Its the only one graded at PCGS or NGC.

1706 - Munster taler

1761 - Cologne taler
This is another tough piece. It is also the only graded example from either PCGS or NGC.

1757 - Eichstatt taler

1795 - Wurzburg

1801 - Munster medal (56 mm)

1761 - Osnabruck (Death of Clemens August)

That Eichstadt piece is a real stunner and I'm really liking that Cologne piece as well.
Excellent and thanks for sharing!

Congrats again. I do believe that this set of Sede Vacante Taler/Medals is quite unique and having these slabbed is the wise thing to do.
I bet the NGC grader was drooling !

No doubt! I could look at these all day!

I might even offer my right arm for that one, it is a stunner to say the least! Nice set and great grades all around. Where did you find such great pieces? I have only seen a few coins of that caliber let alone having a half dozen plus graded by a TPGS...

I dig almost every

the 1757 Eichstadt is really a stand out.
<< <i>Very nice set! Just because I have an X-rated mind, that 1761 Cologne Thaler (taler) looks a little off topic to me... >>
Rick - I'm never going to look at that 1761 Cologne the same now....
I try to pickup a couple per year if I can find them in decent condition. Like most other collectors on this forum it seems like it is either feast or famine. I really do not have a single source for the pieces I have bought. I keep a very focused eye on MA Shops, auction catalogues, and a handful of dealer's inventories. I have been the right place at the right time on a few pieces - the Munster piece and Cologne pieces in particular. I can't make it to any big shows with world material, so the internet is my best friend. Of the ones in this thread, I think I bought them from Pater (3), Kuenker, Olding, Heritage, and a random guy on german eBay.
I have an unbelievable one on the way from Stacks this week that required me to do a little negotiating with my wife for some temporary funds until I could sell some other things. That is a conversation that I would rather not have often.....
When I look at these coins; their designs, their history and their appearance, I'm always
reminded of the judge's comment in declaring whether or not a particular piece of
art might be pornographic.
"Well, I can't define it, but I know it when I see it"
Some of them just jump out as having all the characteristics that appeal to me.
It's just that I got my PCGS grades.
Something about German State coins/medals is just.......amazing.
