2010 bowman leave sealed or open

My last hurrah for modern rips, I ordered a jumbo case of 8 boxes, should I open them when I receive or leave them sealed.
I'm looking for hits honestly and flip for max return.

Otherwise I might hold onto them as my rip fix, build a set then i'll be done with modern.

This years Bowman seem high in price compared to years past, question is will they drop in price the longer I hold onto the product?

It all depends how the rookies pan out after a few years. Bowman is a set that has value at the beginning can grow or drop later on. You might not know about some of these guys for 3 or 4 more years. With Hayward and Strasburg, prices will be high right at the beginning. If the both meet expectations, I don't see any drop off for a while on the unopened stuff. If Strasburg turns out to be another Ben McDonald and no other rookies creep through, you'll be taking a loss

From a few quick searches on Ebay, it doesn't look like sitting on unopened Bowman Chrome has been very profitable... unless you're paying a super low price for the case.

If you're going to quit, quit now. "After this one" is an easy approach to take but you're making it hard on yourself. If you've got the stomach to do it now, I say full speed ahead with the quitting. Sell them as individual boxes and you might make a nickel or two. Noone knows if they will drop in price the longer you hold but on average I would think more often than not they drop.
  • With Strasburg selling for $20 each in bulk pre- sell lots, I'd bust and flip as quick as I could.

Or if you bought the case early you can make a few hundred on flipping it sealed.

How many Draft products sell for considerably higher than the IPO? 2005 Draft is one.

I'd be worried about sitting on Draft. So many Super/Red trackers on boards.

Sell. Unfortunately I don't think we will see another modern set issue similar to 2001 bowman chrome. The problem is that everyone is expecting great things from Strasburg so the price is already inflated, with Pujols nobody saw him coming so there wasn't 50 rookies of him produced which means that there is a huge premium for the rookies that he currently has. Even Lincecum's rookies do not demand the same premium of what you may expect; this is because there are about 150 (exaggerated guess) rookies of his currently available. Stephen Strasburg will be the same way, every set will have 2 base set rookies plus an additional 6-7 numbered/parallel and then an additional auto base set plus the the additional auto numbered. This will be multiplied by the total number of sets in 2010 (like 15?) so Strasburg rookies will be a dime a dozen. Yes, they will fetch a huge amount starting out but once people realize how many are available the price will level out. Sell now.

    Just an opinion

All great feedback fellas, I believe the product goes live on Wednesday so I may wait a few days to see how things pan out.
I'm sure ebay will be flooded with lots, singles, autos, 1 of 1 autos etc. SO i'll have to assess the market value and then decide what i'll do.

Since this will be my last modern purchase I am convinced the modern rip devil will lure me back with a big hit, it's gotta happen right!?

Assess quickly. Most of the "new release hype" money is to be made in the first few weeks.

Bowman will be king for a few months then other higher end products including chrome will bury it. If you are looking for resell the best time is 2 minutes after
you pick up your case. I think when people realize that Stras pulls once in every 3-4 cases, then it won't be so hot.

    Good Luck if you bust.

    Rip it.

Enjoy it, especially if it will be the last for a while. Savor it and don't speed through it image

Sell the Strasburgs and other keys for a crazy price, then buy the guys you want, if any.

Get lucky enough to hit a Bowman Strasburg auto and that's a great percent back from your cost for the case.

If you're thinking about keeping it sealed for down the road, run searches for Lincy's or Heyward's boxes and ask yourself if those were worth sitting on. I would doubt it.

How about 2010 Bowman Baseball Draft Picks and Prospects. Is that going to hold its value and increase a little if one hangs on to it?

I didn't buy any packs but I did pick up the Ackley and Tate Bowman Chrome Autographed rookies. Paid 38.99 for the Ackley and 27.99 for the Tate both with BIN's on Ebay.

The 2 jumbos and 1 hobby I bought completed the base and prospect set and gave me some nice doubles. Haven't sorted the chromes yet but I would think that's pretty close if not done as well.

Got the Heyward for sale now so if that sells, I might pick up a few more boxes

I'll probably buy a jumbo box or two, yet still, and stash them away. I actually went to eBay last night with the intention of buying two boxes. Figured I get burned enough buying wax, so I'd try a different tactic. Instead of buying two boxes... I'd use that same money to buy cards I'd want from the product.

    Here is my haul...

    3 x Albert Pujols Bowman
2 x Albert Pujols Bowman Gold
    1 x Albert Pujols Bowman Orange /250
7 x Starlin Castro Bowman Prospect
7 x Jason Heyward Bowman RC
1 x Austin Jackson Bowman Chrome Auto RC
1 x Austin Jackson Bowman Chrome Refractor Auto RC /500
2 x Jason Heyward Bowman Chrome Auto RC

My only interest in Bowman Chrome products each year is to see what Giants prospects get cards.

If anyone pulls auto'ed refractor of Giants prospect Thomas Neal, I'd be interested in buying. image
