Going to Harrisburg, PA 5/12 - 5/20 to see my son pitch...any shows, card shops, fishing holes?

Hi guys,

Going to see my son pitch for the Harrisburg Senators who are a AA team of the Washington Nationals. Will be there for 8 days and would love to hit a card show or visit some shops within 100 miles or so. I also love to fish if anyone can hook me up with a guide or some helpful info. Also, if anyone lives close and would like to come see a game, I am sure that I can get tickets. Thanks to all.

A card shop that I really like is The Card Stadium off of old route 22. The address is 3715 Walnut St, Harrisburg, PA 17109 so you can map it out.

The prices are reasonable especially on supplies like monster boxes, sheets, top loaders, etc... and they have a large amount of monster boxes of commons dating back to 52's. They also have a wall full of wax boxes from the modern era on. If I want just a box to bust, I'll often stop in and grab a box at a decent price.

Good luck to your son. It's been a while since I been to a game at Harrisburg, but I hear the Senators have a nice new stadium. Obviously Strasburg was getting most of the attention before his promotion but I'll start following your son. What's his name?

    Jeff,
I'd second The Card Stadium as being the best shop in Harrisburg. If looking for somewhere else to look at cards, another place to consider checking out is Sports Card Plus (near Capital city Mall) on the west shore.
As far as the fishing goes, I can't help you. However, I've got buddies that live near HBurg if you want me to check to see where they like to go.
  • my brother lives in chambersburg, and my last visit i went to the antique shop on the east edge of town north side of E-W highway that an old guy was selling a bunch of old cards in what i call not really a shop but a section in the antique mall, if you want to make the trip that far,,,bj

btw,, great photo of your boy, good luck to him

    Jeff,

I third The Card Stadium... Most reasonable as far as prices. Ken is a nice guy to deal with as well.. I go there to get something to rip when I don't want to wait for anything.. If you want to see anything older you need to ask, as he does not display them...

The Card Stadium does not deal with Graded Cards 99% are raw (I think I saw one or two in there before)

Card Shows: Harrisburg East Mall: visit cac-shows.com Runs May14-16).. York Galleria Mall has a show on the 21-23 has 2 Steelers Signing (Mike Wallace and Ryan Clark).. States to see jjcardsntoys.net for more... (This is what is in the paper)

As far as fishing, what type do you like to fish? The ballbark is right on the River, which you can catch Catfish, Small and Large Mouth Bass...

If you head a little north of Harrisburg, there is a town of Dauphin which has Stoney Creek (Mainly Trout)

Where are you staying (you can PM me that), I can give you some decent places to eat (based on what is around this area).

    Jeff,

Looks like Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, VA. We go there all the time. What is your son's name?

    Jeff,

Your son was awesome with the Potomac Nationals. He had the best ERA in the Carolina League when he was moved up to Harrisburg. He was also a Carolina League All-Star. Here is a card that he autographed for me last year.

That's pretty awesome. My dad is originally from Lebanon, PA which is just a short drive from Harrisburg so I am pretty familiar with the area. I went to a Senators game last summer and the stadium was already much nicer than it was just a few years ago and they had barely started on the renovations. Should be a great ballpark now. I'll probably be up there again this summer and hopefully we can take in a game.

Good luck to your son and have fun on your trip.
