Filling a slab with gas does nothing. Think about it. If the slab leaks, the gas leaks out. If it doesnt leak it doesnt need any gas inside.
that PCGS uses a band saw to remove coins from slabs ;
that creates a lot of very fine particulates that could adhere to the coins surface .......
How would that "plastic dust" be removed before re-encapsulation ? >>
...compressed air.
"government is not reason, it is not eloquence-it is a force! like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master; never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action." George Washington
I would hate to see what would happen to an air tight slab when being shipped via air travel. Sitting up at 35,000 or so feet with all the other mail those slabs would burst.
They would probably also bulge significantly when the weather changes between high pressure and low pressure systems.

and if I'm not mistaken PCGS responded that they did not use compressed air on coins submitted to them

<< <i>Nope, I want my toned coins to slowly continue toning, ie let nature take its course so to say. I am sure Ricko will disagree
and....if there is any contaminants or verdisgris on your coins they will continue to grow like mold!!
