Nashville? Huh?

Is anyone going to the Nashville Whitman show later this month? This show snuck up on me. Despite just being an easy few hours away, I will probably not be able to make it. It's a great city and location. I hope the show has legs.

Don't know. I cannot see it in this post.
Is Nashville a "coin town"?

Wow! That's pretty cool. What is it?
It just doesn't get any crustier than that.
<< <i>Check out my Central states post - as I understand it, it's a piece of crust that was removed from a shipwreck gold coin during the conservation process.

I would like one of those... (I wonder if PCGS would slab it.
As for the thread, it was looking like Deadsville, so I never went back.

Dude, last I checked, Beale Street was in Memphis (but I guess there could be a less famous one in Nashville).
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Dang it! Correct-a-mundo! Still, were I anywhere in the western part of the state, I would gladly drive there. As for Nashville, I have no clue. You're on your own.

<< <i>I just heard about the severe flooding in Tennessee and hope everyone on the forum is safe and sound. My question is not meant to diminish the severity of how these floods may have affected people and their homes, but since I am unfamiliar with Tennessee, I wonder how this tradgedy will affect Nashville show - does anyone have any info on whether the show location was damaged by the flooding? >>
That question would be a good one to ask the local CVB directly by phoning them tomorrow. My initial thought is that since the show is almost three weeks away things will be mostly okay by the time we're there provided that the flooding and other problems aren't further exacerbated.
From past experience show promoters aren't the best people to ask about the status of a future show in the aftermath of a natural disaster. I still remember that time in 2004 or 2005 when a major hurricane hit the Palm Beach, FL area a few days before a large coin show. I directly phoned the show promoter to ask him about the status of his show and he said his show was still going to go on and that Palm Beach was "perfectly fine". It was from a medley of other sources that I found out that the area had no electicity, a countywide nighttime curfew was enforced and both my hotel and the convention center received structural damage. Despite all that the promoter still tried to encourage people to show up. His show ended up being cancelled.

Rumor has it that most the Local dealers will be attending the Gallatin show,, as it has been going
on for many years.
A bit of the politics in play here also.
I will be trying to do both.
You’ve likely heard about the record-breaking rains and flooding over the past few days in Nashville.
Now that the flood waters are receding, we’re writing to share the latest updates with you and to let you know the first-ever Whitman Coin & Collectibles Nashville Expo will go ahead as planned, and should not be affected in any significant way.
Although Gaylord Opryland Resort and some Music Valley establishments have flood damage, we are pleased to report that the Nashville Convention Center (where the Expo will be held) as well as the headquarters hotel, the Renaissance Nashville, will be ready to accommodate us without any problems.
In fact, the majority of the city’s hospitality industry is intact and should be operating as usual long before we arrive.
As Music City continues with their cleanup efforts, we’ll keep you posted on the latest developments.
Our contacts in Nashville have assured us they will keep the music playing.
And together, we’ll have a great Expo.
<< <i>Opryland Hotel said that repairs will take many months, if that means they'll be closed that takes out a major chunk of Nashville hotel capacity. >>
Not exactly correct shorecall. Nashville has 33,000 hotel rooms with Opryland having less than 3000. Probably by the Whitman show time 90% of the available rooms in Nashville will be up and running. Just horrible what has happened to this city in the past week, but they will rebound quickly. And as Rick has stated the show will go on.

Yeah, if you talk to the people involved with Tennessee numismatic organizations, they are not too happy with Whitman.

Nashville video ... flood experience
The damage at the Opryland Hotel complex is astounding. Downtown by the river will take many weeks to recover. But, we will recover. As this video says ... "because we are Nashville"
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
That was a very moving video. No looting! Just what I would expect from the wonderful people of Nashville.
<< <i>PCGS will not be attending the Nashville show. >>
I spoke with quite a few dealers and some others from the public and, as of now, I only know of 1 that has changed plans.
Expect a small show with a handful of good dealers and little public. The only thing that might save the show is if gold is still red hot.
Let the fun begin
