What is the approximate breakdown of grades for 86,87,88,89 silver eagles for original rolls

I have some original rolls 80s silver eagles. As is - I assume they are 420 or so a roll. But I was crunching some numbers and was considering getting a few rolls graded. 69s seem to go for 35-40 each (as per my quick search on ebay). So my question is are 69 standard for these type of rolls? Or am I setting myself up for disappointment.

I don't know about grading bullion coins or rolls. My guess is that grading costs will take a large portion of the premium which is added by the plastic. It looks worth it on paper, but they (eagles) stack much higher in rolls than they do in plastic. The value is in the metal, in my humble opinion. I get coins graded at PCGS. Never bullion. Those are for television presentations , yet the advertising cost eats up the rest of those television personality's profits.

You could be disappointed or you could get lucky and hit the bigtime. That's the beauty of the RISK/REWARD factor. So, who is paying $35-$40 for one of these without the plastic ? That should be your target market. image

Nobody - I was referring to PCGS 69 graded examples. And maybe I would get lucky and score a 70.

I agree they are just bullion not coins but I see people making money all the time on the modern stuff and was thinking about giving it a try with these

I watched a few of those auctions on Ebay that were selling early original silver eagle rolls. The 86 I saw with the orange caps sold for over 500 and singles were selling for about 30 raw. I'm guessing you'd make more money if you sold them raw, unless of course you were to score a 70 then thats a different story. What I havn't seen are early rolls in the new PCGS sonically sealed crystalvue holders, those might sell for good money. So my advice is sell them raw unless you have a chance at some 70's.
