I was looking at these at the reverse of them look really struck well.
Is this typical or are they type B,C or D reverses?

I searched through the forum and my head hurts from trying to figure
it out so I thought to leave it to the pro'simage

You got a buggie on the '68-d image
    "It is what it is."
  • I think you have three different reverses there, but the differences are minor. In terms of B, C or D, I would say they are all C. There were a lot of changes in the early years of clad quarters.

    By 1968 clads had 6 different reverses and 1973-1974 were a 7th and 1980 an 8th.

Your 1966 looks like I call a IIIa1 and the 1967 looks likea IIIa2. They are identical except the III a2 has an incuse line on the inside edge of the right (viewer's) wing. It is a very minor difference and IU am not sure of my Identification from even your fine pictures,

The 1968 D is a IIIb. THe underside of the leftwing has a strong outline as opposed to the very weak one of IIIa. You can see a shelf on the inside of the top of Q. 1968 D comes in all 3 versions I have mentioned here.

I defer completely to cladking on his type D, but I don't think they come before 1977.

is a thread that references a link James Wiles descriptions and pictures on the early clad varieties.

Yes. The final eagle reverse type first appeared on a very small percentage of 1977
issues. They got a little more common each year until it was adopted for all subse-
quent issues. Small changes continued to be made right up to the last one in 1998.
