  • It's amazing the damage that you can do in 60 minutes....

You'll be happy to hear I blew my money on coppers and not the Mercs. Since Uncle Sam took a small bite than anticipated, that "extra" tax money went to good use.

First was a 1914D MS64 RD Lincoln (palms were a little sweaty while paying for it). (this was my Merc money!!!)

Followed by a 1924D MS64 RD very nice
    1934D PQ MS66RD and a
    1944D MS67RD

After I wiped the drool off of those Lincolns, I picked up a 1857 Lg Date (ex Sturgeon Collection) MS63BN just to keep Spooly honest.

and just to keep those half cent collectors honest a 1849 MS63 BN. Needless to say a great time. I got so absorbed I looked at my watch and it was 12:45 so I missed the other registry members.

I was looking for some modern copper proofs but none were to be found (at least what I wanted).

Hopefully they will up by mid week. Now that I REALLY am broke I may work on imaging the coins.

  • I was a bit disappointed with the pickin's. I was there all day Thur and Fri. Out of 20 coins bid on at the auction I got one. Prices were very strong usually opening from the book above my max. The following is my list of purchases:

    1806 50C MS62 POINTED 6, STEM
    1905 50C PR67
    1818/5 25C MS64
    1822 25C AU55
    1835 H10C MS64 SM DATE, SM 5C
    1871 3CS MS67
    1864 2C PR65BN LM
    1821 1C AU53
    1822 1C XF45
    1843 1C MS63BN
    1939S 5C MS66FS
    1952D 25C MS67

Most of these will be imaged and up by early next week. I left too early to meet with the lunch group. Sorry I missed it.

Both you guys sound like you had an excellent time.

Keyrock, buying Lincolns instead of Merc's is probably a good idea--keep it up. Indeed, let's get all the dime collectors to weigh in--I bet all of us encourage you to spend your money on Lincolns. Actually, I like red Lincolns. I can well understand your hands shaking buying a 14-D, but that is such a classic coin!

As for Billywls, an eclectic selection of nice coins. I truly like the fact that you add pictures of your coins. The only thing better than your coin pictures is your space pictures! If you ever decide to move into Mercs, I must then recommend that you buy more telescope equipment. Until that time, both your coin and space pictures (especially the Horsehead nebula) are really nifty.

To repeat myself, it does seem like you both enjoyed yourselves. I hope others report back from the coin show so that those of us who could not attend can gain some vicarious thrills.

I was there on Friday where I picked up a 30-S in 66 and a 36-D in 66. About 10 minutes after I bought the 36-D, I ran into a 67. This is after walking the floor for hours looking for Mercs. Anyway, I decided the 67 was too expensive.... 300 vs. 65 for the 66 so I am happy with what I found. There were slim pickins for No Bands coins. Heritage had their stock there, but I can buy those over the internet. I had a great time and had lunch with Halfnut, a really good Navy guy.
