MS69 silver Kennedy half, bicentennial, offered 5 dollars

I went into Eugene Numismatics yesterday with a PCGS MS69 Kennedy silver half dollar, centennial (1976). I was offered 5 bucks. I said to the guy, "isn't the silver in here worth at least 3 bucks" testing the waters. He said, "no, its not worth quite that much" and checked some chart on the wall and then told me the silver was worth 2.75. What does everyone think of the man's quote for silver value? Would you ever go back to a place like that? Am I just confused on how silver values work? No, I did not sell the coin.

It's 40% silver, right? I think he's pretty much right on.

The problem as I view it is thus:

You are looking for the value at MS69 not as silver.

He is looking to pay melt because he is either trying to rip OR he really just wants it for the silver value.

Would I go back, sure, I just would not take stuff that he is not intersted in buying at a premium.

Wait, is this the one listed in the PCGS price guide at $5600, or am I looking in the wrong spot?

$2.75 is right on but you must be referring to a Proof coin since there is only a single MS69 in the PCGS Stable that is worth well over $5.00.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

and you are right, PF69DCAM. I took a break from numismatics for a year after I lost my job and am only now needing to sell some of my coins after I have been unpracticed for awhile. Thanks everybody.

Part of the problem is a great many dealers do not value high grade common coins - condition rarities. They are not interested in slabbed Roosies, Jeffersons, post 1964 Washies, Kennedy halves, Memorial cents and so forth. They honestly don't think they are valuable - again, most dealers. Obviously there are some who make a living selling these to clients who build such sets. It would seem that a B&M dealer is not going to put a premium on a slabbed coin unless he has a buyer

These come nice but they aren't common in 69.

$5 is too low but I'm not sure how much. He obviously recognized it as a premium coin
or he wouldn't have offered so much over spot. For the main part it's almost impossible
to get a good price on moderns from B&M dealers. Some old line dealers are starting to
realize they're losing business by not stocking moderns and will make a little better of-
fer and this seems to be what you got.

If it is a PCGS PR69DCAM Silver I would say it is worth $25.00 to $50.00 on eBay if you can get a couple of bidders after it.
And no most dealers are not going to give you that much for it has to go to the collector market.
