MS69 silver Kennedy half, bicentennial, offered 5 dollars

I went into Eugene Numismatics yesterday with a PCGS MS69 Kennedy silver half dollar, centennial (1976). I was offered 5 bucks. I said to the guy, "isn't the silver in here worth at least 3 bucks" testing the waters. He said, "no, its not worth quite that much" and checked some chart on the wall and then told me the silver was worth 2.75. What does everyone think of the man's quote for silver value? Would you ever go back to a place like that? Am I just confused on how silver values work? No, I did not sell the coin.

You are looking for the value at MS69 not as silver.
He is looking to pay melt because he is either trying to rip OR he really just wants it for the silver value.
Would I go back, sure, I just would not take stuff that he is not intersted in buying at a premium.

These come nice but they aren't common in 69.
$5 is too low but I'm not sure how much. He obviously recognized it as a premium coin
or he wouldn't have offered so much over spot. For the main part it's almost impossible
to get a good price on moderns from B&M dealers. Some old line dealers are starting to
realize they're losing business by not stocking moderns and will make a little better of-
fer and this seems to be what you got.
And no most dealers are not going to give you that much for it has to go to the collector market.
