That's a pretty impressive strike, but I can't gauge the surfaces from the photo.

Are you comparing the strike to a normal Peace dollar, or to 1921s in general, which have horrendous strikes on average.

wow, nice look to liberty - very classical in appearance on this coin. very hard to see surfaces in picture though & so will guess 64.

The toning is pretty typical. The strike isn't bad. Personally I always shied away from that kind of toning, simply because I don't care for it. It's probably more natural than the white or off-white look I prefer, though.

Looks like a nice example with a normal strike as I see a typical weakness in the belly of the eagle.

I'm not even going to try to offer a grade based on these images.

    Edited to add:

Are these the sellers images image

Suggest you compare it to the 1921 strike examples in the Guide Book for Peace Dollars. From the photos it appears about average, although the base of the bust seems full. Minimal marks & scrapes...tough to tell?

Average 1921 strike, IMO. Some things are stronger, some weaker.

As for appearance, that's a matter of opinion. It is not the look I like but I'm sure others do.

Hard to judge grade from those photos.

  • Although that coin might be a technical 65, I wouldn't pay over 64 money for it.

Here's a PCGS MS65 I bought off Larry Shapiro at BST (for 65 money):

Thanks. So do I. The luster on the reverse is blinding. image

I'm gonna send it in for a green bean.

I am with him on the grade although that looks to be a very strong 65 and all 65's shouldn't be judged off of it. And I was comparing it too all the other 21's out there not 22-35's Airplanenut. As 21's go in terms of strike, it's middle of the road maybe a little bit better but not much.

Not crazy about the toning if it's as hazy as it appears to be in the photo. Grade should be between 58 and 64.
  • Strike doesnt seem that good to me either. No detail in the hair at all. 2nd one posted looks much more detailed.

I like that "look" on 1921 Peace Dollars -- looks MS 63/64. If you need it for your type set, you should buy it.
  • ConnecticoinConnecticoin Posts: 13,113 ✭✭✭✭✭
That's an above average strike for a 1921.

Looks like an avg strike, not baggy, see luster... I would think its a 63.

Picked it up for $330. I'll post better photos when I recieve it.

That's a good price as long as you're sure it's MS.

Here is a link to the auction now that it's over.

I think it will be a nice coin, and the sellers photos don't do it any justice.

Not my favorite series, but the coin looks as if it's been washed out by the photo light, I think the strike is above average, but I'm not crazy about the toning on this piece. I'm sure it looks much nicer in hand. Super nice rare coinimage It sure does look nice and original!!

Really clean for a 63, might be net graded for toning which was more prevalent back then or there is a ding or two hiding under the tone.

Nice coin. Strike doesn't appear overly strong or weak -- about average to just above average, IMO.

Post a better photo when you have the coin. The old ANACS was pretty good on grading.
