Cold calls from coin telemarketer

I just got a cold call from some clown selling the "new" at which point I told him I don't buy new coins and hung up. This is the first time I've been cold called, I'm on the national list not to be bothered. I think the company name was "Top Shelf."Anyone else being bothered?image

  • No, but it must be tough being a telemarketer these days.

    Yes, yesterday received a call from someone saying he had a hoard of franklins from an "estate" and wanted to know if I would be interested, I told him not really, and suggested he try ebay, then hung up. I think he was from the northeast, he said the name of his company so quickly I didn't catch it.

    If I'm doing nothing I like to lead them on as if they are going to make the sale of the century. Then I tell them I think my brother wants a bunch also but he won't be home till this evening. Then I ask, "Do you have a number I can reach you at tonight." You'd be surprised how many are willing to give their home or cell phone number if they thing they have a very big sale coming their way. Once you've got their number there are a lot of ways to have fun with it.

    Back in the 1980's that was common, 2-3 calls per week, mostly from New York based boiler rooms. :}
