ANACS SLABS FORM THE EARLY 1980'S

Am considering a purchase of some MS Morgans and Peace , in ANACS " slabs."
I've not seen these before.
They are in the heavy plastic 5' x 8" x 3/8" holders, with 6 plastic screws.
A picture of the obv. and ref. is sealed , inside, with the coin.
A grade is given and an Anacs No.

Would these carry any premium?
Would you recommend removal and resubmitting to a TPG for curerent grade?

I can't submit pics at this time.

Thanks.

ANACS didn't use slabs until 1988/9. The "slabs" you are mentioning were aftermarket products made of lucite and assembled with plastic screws.

Some collectors like the early ANACS pieces but you can't make any generalized statement about how they will fare vs. current standards.

ANACS didn't slab coins until the late 80's. What you are talking about is a Capitol holder containing a raw coin and the ANACS photo certificate for that coin.

Any decision whether or not to send a coin for grading must be made based on the coin's merits, not how it is currently certified. If you do send any of the coins for grading, definitely keep the ANACS certificates and the holders, as they will enhance marketability when you go to sell.

All anacs photo certificate coins are worthless. Send them to me for immidiate disposal
Need a Barber Half with ANACS photo certificate. If you have one for sale please PM me. Current Ebay auctions
  • You mean one like this?

Just pulled this example off FeeBay.

Since I don't like Ikes (yeah, right!), it was painful to part with $16 to acquire this one.

Edit: hope the link works, may not. If you get a list of items, the third or fourth is the ANACS photograde "holder" with split grades.

If not, it is item 280491807178 . Rob

The gentleman's history is off. When we started grading in 1979, we were using the grades of 60, 63, 65, 67 and 70 for both MS and Proof.
