Ebay things that make ya go HMMM

A seller with about 18 feedbacks is suddenly selling off a MASSIVE amount of "vintage Hobo nickels"-- like, darned near 100 of them. I'm thinking; "Whoa, this should be in a major auction house, not eBay!" then I saw this item that sold by the same seller:

An engraving tool!? Mmm...

I'm guessing these nickels aren't as vintage as he claims.

First off... I have no horse in this race...

Nowhere in his listings does the seller claim these are "vintage"... that word is not used...

These are simply modern "Hobo Nickels"... by present day artists... believe it or not, there is a market for these pieces... consider them as art work...

Are they worth the money the seller is asking?... that is totally subjective...

I know nothing about hobo nickels but he says the newer ones are by "owen covert" who apparently wrote a book and makes contemporary ones. The vintage ones do look vintage but maybe they just fool me. Anyway, interesting. --Jerry

PS Used engraving tool for sale? Maybe he wanted to be the next owen covert but found out it takes artistic talent in addition to a tool and thus is selling the tool after ruining a few nickels....

What is so bad about hobo nickels? Would that device be used for something more sinister?

I am at work and can't access ebay right now... I looked at 8 listings this morning and found no reference to the word "vintage"...

Be that as it may... I usually avoid these ebay threads as they are basically a waste of time and cyberspace... there is nothing all that unusual about this sellers offerings...

To sum it up... (and keeping in mind that I am at work ... and sick with the flu... and medicated...) all you ebay thread trollers need to get a life and a true interest in coins... jeez, already... oh yeah... and don't forget to get fitted for your tin foil caps... image

Well, hours later, in hindsight, if the guy has a love of hobo nickels 'cause he's a carver himself, than yah, he could of had a huge lot of "vintage" hobo nickels. Selling that engraver just makes it seem really suspicious.
