Never trust anyone in the hobby.......

I read the thread about that guys stuff getting stolen, and I have to share a story I personally witnessed many years ago.

There was a big show in Pittsburgh. Jaromir Jagr was going to attend it. His first show appearance right after the Pens won the cup.

So this big hockey card dealer from Maryland stays at this other dealers house for the show. His car is loaded with all his stuff the
night before the show. His car is broken into the night before the show and all his stuff taken. He files a police report, but nothing
ever comes of it. He must of lost 50,000 dollars worth of stuff easily.

His dealer "friend" shows up in Boston a year later making a big trade with all the stuff from this Maryland dealer. He then
sells that new stuff at the White Plains show in NY after that. I personally looked through the stuff knowing that this guy did it, but
I had no proof, nor did the police. I was looking right in his shaky eyes as we talked about his great sets that he had. I knew this
guy as a small time dealer. Someone who would come out with some 80 o-pee-chee cards and sets. Not a guy with nice 60-69
sets in opc and parkhurst.

There are so many guys in this hobby that trust one another, but I wouldn't trust anyone. I would never tell a soul where my
stuff is. Just have heard way too many horror stories.

Two ways to lose your stuff:

    1. Tell somebody you have it.

    2. Tell somebody where it is.

    .......

I can count on one hand the number of folks I have dealt with
that I am "sure" will not steal.

BUT, I think almost EVERYBODY will steal if they are desperate OR
are certain they can get away with it.

    Such is life.

I kind of cringe when I see people showing pictures of their packages (usually to point out the bad shipping from a seller) with names and addresses plain to see.

"Hello, world, I collect sports cards and I live at _ _ _"

Just something that I would never do, and that goes for both addresses.

Wasnt it YOU who was whining and crying in the deleted Pujols thread about people jumping in threads and ruining it? I guess if its not a Pujols thread, you think its ok to do. Douchebaggery.

To respond to the OP, there are a handful of guys I would completely trust. As Storm said, I suppose if they were desperate enough, they might do it. But knowing their moral compass, I would not believe they would even then.

funny, its usually YOU AND DIZZLE leading the antipujols, and other hate threads on this board!

Actually, I do like Pujols. I just dont blind myself to the probabilities of PEDs seeing the era he came up and still plays in along with him being from D.R.

Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Albert is the Greatest. Such a man is the antipujols — he denies the Luis and the Albert. 1 Fandango 2:22

I think the thread title "Never trust anyone in the hobby" must come from a very myopic thought process.

Anyone that could waste time whining over isloated incidences of theft that have not impacted them personally has way too much time on their hands and has a general sour outlook on life. Begin a thread that has some overall value to board members, not your personal angst.

I have had many excellent personal experiences with folks whom I've met on this board and in some cases have trusted them with literally thousands of dollars worth of cards. Our friendships have grown over the years and several of us plan to meet at the National in Baltimore to enjoy each others company, take in a game, have a few beers and laughs.

You OTOH can hide in your closet clutching your cards.

I was responding to another thread where a guy had a MAJOR collection stolen after the theifs clipped his alarm system. This
thread was on this board and the Net54 board. However, typical response from you. For someone who likes to have a "positive
outlook with board members" you sure have a way of responding negatively to threads, and make yourself look like a troll.

Just for the record...you INITIATED the thread, nowhere do you state you were responding to a prior thread or a NET54 thread. I guess we were all just supposed to know that.

Troll? I say look in the mirror. I recall your bomb throwing of not long ago.

Of course, you may have the last word here.
