    Sad news image

I used buy from Will at the local card shows in San Diego back in the late 1970s - early 1980s. He'd come to them from his home in Orange Co many times.

He will be missed; but he is in a far better place now.

    Oh my...

Will was a regular at Northern California shows too. His prices were always bit on the high side but as a man he was right up there with Dick Dobbins at the top of the "good guy" scale. (I'm sure they're trading stuff at the Big Card Show In The Sky). When I was just starting out in my young teens Will never blew me off, answered all my questions, and would often bring stuff to shows he knew I'd be interested in and keep it "behind the table" until I showed up.

He'll be missed but never forgotten.

Well, that IS a damn shame. But, gosh, he's been sick for many, many years; he must have been a tough ol' bird.

Will was always one of my favorite figures on the West Coast card scene in the 1980s . . . though I always counted my fingers after shaking his hand.

What I remember best about him was his on-going feud with the Barnings, though I never knew the genesis of it. He and Frank and Vivian had a real hate triangle going.

I remember Will from shows in the early '70's, and he was the guy that jumped on '74 Washington Nat'l variations. Sorry to hear of his demise, but hope he's no longer suffering from what ailed him for so long.

I never heard of the man, but based upon what you guys have said about his long illness it's nice to know that he is no longer suffering.

    RIP WILL.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Footlong, last I heard Merv was alive and well and living out in the desert.
He ran an ad in the SM paper about '73, looking for collectors that would be interested in going to a monthly show/meeting in Garden Grove. A couple of friends and I responded, and being too young to drive at the time Merv offered us a ride. For the next 2 years Merv drove us to OC every month, and dropped us at our houses afterwards. Would never take a dime from us either. And incredibly great guy with the nicest family you could imagine.

Merv had tons of '59 vending, I think he got them from Fritsch. They were the 4th series I think, from about 376-400. Aaron, Brooks, etc.
500 in a box, mint condition like a brick, $5. You would get 4-7 Aaron's that you could sell for a buck and the rest would be gravy. Used to buy a box from him every other month.
