  • I would definetly not go with memorabilia cards, they are bad.....

For vintage, I would probably go for 1956 Topps.

Good luck and congrats on your sale!
  • I could start a new life with 6 grand.
    Thanks for your help everyone.

<< <i>If I had $6,000, I would buy the nicest Aaron RC and the nicest Clemente RC I could find- both in PSA 7. >>

    Best answer.

Plus, I always agree with a man who knows where to get a toe on short notice.

You must have some favorite players, I'd go for those.

    Me?

I'd start with Maris, Gibson, Koufax rookies, perfectly centered. Then a 55 Mays.

<< <i>I would try to get a complete set of each different T206 backs. They will keep increasing in value. Of course you would have to start squirreling money away for the Cobb back, otherwise your set won't be complete. >>

Took me just shy of $6,000 to do the above. Dont worry about the fantasy Cobb back though. Its as much a part of a complete backs T206 set as a 1913 Liberty nickel is part of a complete nickels set. >>

Your opinion on this is so baseless and contrary to the opinion of every other knowledgeable, experienced collector that you are running the risk of losing credibility on everything else you say about T206s (if it hasn't happened already). You are brand new to T206s, and for you to take up a position so contrary to common sense so soon after you begin collecting these, is a great way to marginalize yourself. Gain some experience over time, and build up some expertise and credibility. Just because you bought a few Drum backs last month doesn't make you an expert on the set. >>

REA auction write-up on the Cobb/Cobb

I like this part the best:

"A strong case can be made that the T206 Ty Cobb with "Ty Cobb" back should be assigned its own catalog number as a "one-card set," but due to its great similarity to the T206 series, this card has always been considered a T206."

Wow...im not as "contrarian" as you thought huh? Furthermore even Scot Reader, who published an actual book on T206 also states that the Cobb/Cobb might not be a true T206. Got any other good advice for me hammered? You just got hammered.image >>

Yes, here's more advice - stop pretending you're an expert on a set you started collecting two weeks ago. Perhaps you can start a set of '33 Goudeys so by mid-May you'll be an expert on that as well.

What irritates virtually everyone here (and even more so on net54) is that you take a position contrary to the vast majority of experienced collectors, and pollute every board with it. Now if Scot Reader wants to join a discussion on the boards then he will have authority from which to argue. You don't have any. If, after a considerable amount of collecting experience, you feel like blessing others with your opinion, then it will have some weight and be worth something.

Whether or not you're wrong about the Cobb backs, I don't know (I'm not an expert on these, even though I also own a few T206's). I just don't think you realize how little credibility you have, due to how you go about confronting people that have far superior knowledge. >>

LMAO! I was going to post a image on your first response but this one is MUCH better! image
