If You're looking for a Peace dollar with a Cracked Planchet

Teletrade's got a pretty decent example for sale in today's auction.

Seems cheap, for what it is. Silver dollars with a cracked planchet are somewhat scarce.
(Not my coin and not really my field... just thought someone might appreciate it.)

I did not look up to see what code 93 was. But, I am assuming that the submitter did not submit under the Mint Error serivce, therefore earning a gennie.

Exactly. I did the same thing too ironically on a Peace dollar with a heavy strike though.
It came back as damaged even though it is not a post mint problem.

Maybe it should have run through the more expensive mint error tier at PCGS?
  • I think its lousy that this is how they handle errors that are not submitted as such. Why not call and say, hey you might have an error, wanna pay the extra fee? For new collectors like myself what if I dont know I have an error being sent in? SOmething not quite as profoud as this cracked planchet. Doesnt that go agasint the integrity of the grading and authentication philosphy? What are you really getting in this case? Surely the grader who saw this noticed it was an error, but prefers not to grade at all over pointint it out?
