PCGS Certification number not verifiable: a tale with a pleasant ending

I bought a coin in the last Heritage auction without first checking the certificiation number on the PCGS website (there's a lesson here for bidders).
Big Name #1 at Heritage told me it's my problem, send the coin to PCGS or take the coin to a show and give it to them there. Big Name #2 at Heritage called PCGS and got things rolling to fix the problem. Follow-up calls to PCGS were always handled professionally by them although they weren't able to confirm when the problem would be corrected. Two weeks later the coin cert appeared in their data bank.
Good service from Heritage and PCGS, and a lesson learned: check the cert number before bidding unless you don't care about fixing the problem yourself after the auction, and don't accept "We can't help you" from anyone you do business with..go to the next person until you find a sympathetic ear.

Sounds like a lack of customer relation skills... this is really sad!

I had a doily that was in the DB as another coin. They apparently couldn't or wouldn't fix it just from pics.

<< <i>I had one once that didn't show up. A very easy fix. I emailed an image of the front and back of the holder with the coin intact and PCGS added it right away. No shipping, no problem. >>
The same thing happened to me last month with an 1898-O Dime I bought at a
Bowers and Merena auction. [ No certification numbers are ever shown, sorry to say.]
One email to PCGS customer service and a follow up email from Noah Varness of PCGS
asking for a scan of the obverse and reverse of the holder proved to be all I had to do.
Every so often I run accross a "mechanical error" in the PCGS database. Its always handled
quickly.

I would have asked for a guarantee that it wouldn't be reholdered before sending it in.

When it was suggested I send it in, I indicated that reholdering was not an option. Have since sold it.
