Coin Photography, simple method, great results

Just so simple, Cat structure (minus cat), hold slab up on top, rest kodak slr on end , 8" from coin with a close up lens attachment, zoom in until the coin just about fills the screen, hold coin with light reflecting toward camera from open window behind....get the reflection just right, let auto focus do its thing....If you get that wiggle just right, and catch that reflection just right....you can get some pretty dynamic photoraphs. I swear, I enjoy photographing the coins as much as 'owning' them!

  • I cant tell if you are serious or just joking ?
  • Very nice shot, but hand shake and camera shake can getcha. I got a copy of NUMISMATIC PHOTOGRAPHY 2nd ed., Mark Goodman. If you already have the camera about USD$50 will get you what you need. A very short book w/lots of pictures. Chapters give the gist of what you need and then goes on to satisfy the pickiest photographer. But the basics are all you need.

...and no, I'm not posting a picture: I don't have anything I think is worth putting up -- yet. (but when I do, it'll be pretty) image
