Foreign coin ebay sellers.....what to do?

I sold some darkside stuff on ebay. In my auction description I clearly stated that shipping to the United States only. I guess the winning bidder either didn't read or can' t read as he(she) is from France. How do I terminate the deal and offer the coin to the back-up bidder without being in violation of ebay policy?
Thanks.

I'm not entirely sure on the policy aspects of how to handle that, but for future reference, if you really don't want to ship overseas I'd strongly recommend selecting the option to prohibit non-US buyers on the listing page.

That said, unless it's a pricey coin that's dear to you, I'd say just go ahead and send it to France. International sales aren't as scary as they're sometimes made out to be. And for a single coin or a few, postage is still really cheap. I send in a padded mailer and my international deliveries typically cost from $1.24 to 2.50 or so in postage (average seems around $2). If it's a pricey coin, you can and probably should insist that they pay for Registered Mail (another $10 or so on top of base postage). Some places can be scary, and delivery can sometimes take a few weeks, but when selling coins on ebay, it's definitely a good thing to sell internationally - you'll get a lot more bids, meaning better prices and profits for you! image

I agree, don't sweat it. I ship overseas quite a bit and have zero problems, even to Russia. I always use Priority Insured and charge for that of course.

I have shipped to and received items from all over the place and never had problems.

I can't speak from the viewpoint of a seller, but I never have had reason to be disappointed in the French post, if that is the concern.

  • I agree with Spoon, I think you need to select US only in your listing, then only US-based buyers can bid, if that's what you want. I've had no problems selling overseas before, though. (not to say that a problem couldn't arise)
