Nice Clad Quarter Roll Score

GritsManGritsMan Posts: 2,599 ✭✭✭
Every time I go East, I buy five rolls of quarters to help fill out the 'P's in my kids' sets. This last time I bought 5 rolls from a big bank in Fairfax City, VA, not expecting anything. I did notice they were hand-rolled, however. So I get home, open them with my kids and find they are almost ALL pre-State Quarters. Never thought I'd get excited about something like this, but I was thrilled. They'd obviously been rolled a while ago so most dates were a full grade or more above what I've been finding recently. Also scored two of the elusive 1969-Ps, which I'd not found at all in any rolls since I started trying to build a set last year.

I know, I know, nothing spectacular, but in today's context pretty cool.

That is cool. Good luck putting the sets together.

That is a neat find. I also keep choice AU eagle reverse clad WQs when I find them and have been lucky enough over the years to also obtain a few rolls of mixed date, true MS pieces.

Whether it is copper, silver, gold, platinum or clad - a nice coin is a nice coin. It's fun to collect coins the old-fashioned way. I still set nice AU coins aside when I'm on the road. Nice find, Grits!

You can still put together a really nice VF and better set of these though a few dates are
getting decidely tough in VF. The '69 is the toughest but the '71 isn't far behind. The '73-D
is another than can be almost impossible.

I recently found these OBW 1976 rolls at my local shop. I was able to buy about 5 of them for $11 each.
I opened one roll and I'm stocking the others away for the next 40 years. image

Fun stuff everyone! Thanks for responding. As jmski indicates and many others know, I have more fun doing this "roll thang" than I do buying high-end stuff. And cladking has set the challenge, so it's on to upgrading now! Will keep posting fun finds and look forward to everyone else's.

Speaking of, those are gorgeous rolls, Meltdown!

Something about that bicentennial reverse always reminds me of my childhood.

I used to collect those as a kid & was thrilled when I received one in change.

    Nice roll scores guys...
