Washington Success Token (silvered) ?

Does PCGS actually list "silvered" or maybe "slvd" on their holders to designate that the piece is in fact Silvered.

Also, does there have to be a certain percentage of the silvering left to get this designation, like the RED or RedBrown categories?

Thanks for any help on this. If no one knows off hand, or if no response this evening I'll call PCGS tomorrow.

Yes, PCGS does list "Silvered" on their holders.

I've seen some pieces with almost no silvering left, and others that were nearly fully silvered (like the one below) in 'Silvered' holders:

Called PCGS today and customer service said they were 95% sure that they don't offer (silvered) as a designation on their holders.

I reviewed the whole scenario of the Washington Success Medal and the silvering, percentage etc, said they understood but that they did not offer that as a designation.

Now I'm confused, did the Heritage sales just put that (silvered) in their description headings of those two sales that Midlife provided or was the designation actually on those holders?

I asked the customer service person if they were absolutely sure and thats when the " I'm 95% sure" came out, I'm concerned about that other 5%.

The reason I'm concerned about the other 5% is that Midlife stated that they do offer that designation and on their own pop report it has a category both in the large and small planchet sizes that specifically states "silvered". And CCU states that he has seen them of varying degrees of silvering in "silvered" holders.... I'm going with the 5%...

As I tried to explain on the phone, 'Silvered' is not a designation by PCGS. It is a variety. Perhaps that is the source of your confusion.

You need only look at the PCGS pop report and you will see that, for example, there are items described as follows:

PCGS Coin# Date Denomination Variety

779 Wash-Success Medal Large Size, Plain Edge

787 Wash-Success Medal Large Size, PE, Silvered

In other words, item 779 is a Washington Success Token, Large Size with a Plain Edge, and item 787 is the exact same item with silvering.

If the question is how much silvering does a Large Size, PE Token need to have left in order to be considered 'Silvered', as I also explained, the answer is, in my experience, just enough for them to determine that it was Silvered at one time.

The question remaining that I would like to be 100% sure of is; If PCGS determined that it was once silvered as your experience has shown, then do they actually print
"silvered" on the label in the holder?

I was using designation where variety was the correct term.

Yes, PCGS always prints the variety on the label. As MidLifeCrisis linked above, this is what the holder look like on Large Size, Reeded Edge, Silvered example:

As CCU showed in his last post...If you are able to log into the Heritage website as a "member", you will see the full slab photos that show that "Silvered" is indeed printed on the PCGS labels.
