The marks in front of Libery's mouth-under the neck and behind the neck are die polish marks that can be found on other 23-d's Ive seen.
This particular coin has to many cracks and I cant seem to be sure which vam it is.

Here's another 1923-D with polishing. Typical uncirculated with faint cracks matching the auction coin. Possibly the same die as the auction coin, only earlier in use.
Seems like it might be a new die variety, since there are several examples known. [VAMpires! Do multiple coins with the same polishing constitute a new VAM variety?
