My experience with Secure Plus...

tradedollarnuttradedollarnut Posts: 20,238 ✭✭✭✭✭
... in an area that I specialize in is limited to just one coin. It got the plus [65+]. I didn't think it was anything special and wouldn't have called it PQ. Probably too small of a sample size to draw any conclusions at this point. Shrug.

I almost pulled the trigger on this one last night:

    65+ Saint

    What do you think?

RedHerring, An MS66 sold for $150 more than the 65+. It's a nice coin, but looks overpriced.

Then why did you submit it?
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I just got a SecurePlus coin from CRO yesterday: 1907 Barber dime MS66+ with gorgeous envelope toning . I have lots of CAC'd coins, and am pretty sure that this dime would have received a green bean even without the toning. I am not convinced that it would have received the PCGS + without the toning, however.

I didn't. I know the coin and considered purchasing it, but I didn't really like it all that much. I didn't say it was my coin - I just said I had experience with it.

Are we starting to play semantics and determining if there is there?image
There once was a place called
    Camelotimage
  • This is the problem I see with this, just like NGC * a lot of coins that do not deserve the + will get it and then the collector will get hosed by dealers that will use the designation to get way more for the coin then it is worth. That is why CAC was created because of all the overgraded coins and now it starts all over again coins not in the 10-15% are going to get the + when they do not deserve it. As time goes on things like this tend to only get worse as we seen with slabbing itself, standards just seem to loosen over time as more and more coins are graded/regraded. I hope I am wrong but history says otherwise.

So, you don't see eye to eye with Laura on S+?
You seem to be quite non-chalant with it while she was (is?) all up in arms.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

After seeing your collection, the usual (+) coin probably DOES look average to you. image

After seeing your experience in the coins you specialize in, I am not surprised that +'s mean little to you.
Most of the coins that I saw in your sets were +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I bet if you called up Barry directly he would sell it to you at the price he would net if he doesn't have to pay eBay and Paypal rips.

    If I have a dog of a 65, should I submit it looking for a 64+?

One coin is probably too small a sample size? Um, yes, I would tend to agree with that.
