Speaking of Jason Heyward...

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand

this

or this

or even this

I get that he's a solid prospect. But he'd have to hit .400 this year, set a new HR record, and find a cure for AIDS to make these purchases pan out.
Modern collectors amuse me - his cards will never be more valuable than they are prior to him taking his first MLB regular-season AB.
Bold prediction: These cards will be worth 1/4 their current value at the end of the season.

Hershiser already put him in the HOF dude, those are bargains. image
  • Wasn't there a spike on that Jordan Shafer kid last year?

I know Heyward is supposed to be an incredible talent, but there's only one direction to go with prices like that...

I personally won't spend that kind of money on a prospect who hasn't accomplished a whole lot with 1 MLB game under his belt. But if he truly becomes a superstar then the card will no doubt increase from those levels (see Lebron James or even Albert Pujols for examples).

I pulled his Bowman Sterling Refractor Auto Rookie in 2008 and happily sold it a week later for $150. Paid for the box and then some. I agree, that is too much coin for a prospect. Even when Pujols was a rookie in 2001, you could have gotten his Bowman Chrome rookie for $600 at the end of the season.

I'm not one of the Beckett kiddies, but it's pretty simple. Sell when people are willing to pay crazy prices. The "Beckett kiddies" are doing none of the buying, so I don't know what you don't understand . . .

i think this kid will be the real deal. i would love to have one of his bowman chrome refractors numbered at 500. i just do not want to pay alot of money on him yet. i am going to try to get a non refractor card of him though now. if i was going to spend that kind of money i could get a 1970 and 1971 topps sets in near mint grade which i would enjoy alot more.

Did you even look at Hammered's links? All of the auctions went unsold.... Is that what makes a "brilliant" seller in your opinion, someone who pisses his money away paying ebay seller fees?

Some people here get such a hard on trying to make the point that buyers have overpaid for Jason Heyward cards, but this thread contains zero links to related auctions. (This is the setup for the "Until Now" post)

Those cards all sold. (two of the three anyway)
  • The first card hammered noted has been relisted...for 15K now. Wouldn't be surprised if it sells for 5k on a best offer now.

Edit to add: Same card. Same seller.

Simply insane prices being realized after one day in the bigs.

    Crazyiness

those cards in the links look sold to me.

    unless we're talking Monopoly.
  • He'd have to hit 60 HR's and bat .400 in 7 straight seasons, win 3 MVP's and 5 WS rings for me to pay that can of money for a card. I'd settle for a 2001 Bowman Chrome Pujols for $3000 and have another $2000 left over for 75 Topps Mini's.

No, I'm just retarded. They all sold. I guess I have a hard on to point out that other people have a hard on for saying Heyward cards are overpriced. I also guess I'm reaching the age where my mind is playing tricks on me and I need to check each link twice before quick posting. God, I'm an idiot sometimes.

I am glad I overdrafted him according to rankings in the 8th round. Guy does look really smooth. I think his AFLAC RC should gain some steam as well.
