Duke will smoke Butler like a cheap cigar......

Butler will officially wake up and smell the coffee starting tonight.
And they will quickly be forgotten like a drunk date.

I'll tell you what, I hope you're wrong about a blow out, but you're already completely wrong about being forgotten. In this day and age, a mid major reaching a National Final will be remembered for years and years. Heck, George Mason went one game fewer and everyone remembers it.

Butler beat along the way #1 seed Syracuse, #2 seed Kansas St and #5 seed Michigan State. They've had one of the toughest roads to the finals of anyone that I can remember.

nothing against Duke... as they will be there again and again

The market says Duke -7. Either post a copy of your ticket at Duke -7 for five dimes or quit making noise.

One of the better NCAA finals of all-time. As crazy as it sounds, I'm not sure the better team won. Butler plays defense at a level beyond anyone else in college basketball. They've got a lot of talent returning, I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the Final 4 again next year. They should certainly be a pre-season top 5 team.

Hasn't anyone here learned over the years?

Take any CU Sports Talk prediction, and it is usually wrong...with the exception of mine.

I don't think 50 cents would illustrate a very confident bet.

Just a suggestion, you might want to take up another hobby rather than sports, a hobby that you have a scintilla of knowledge about. image

Well was that the cheap cigar you had in mind? Seemed closer than you predicted!?

I guess the lesson to be learned here is that if you pound your chest long enough and keep boldly predicting that a heavy favorite will win an upcoming sporting event you're bound to eventually be right.

When you have time, please look into your crystal ball and tell us whether the UConn women's basketball team will sneak into the field of 96 next year. Thanks in advance!

So now instead of being smoked like a cheap cigar you really just meant that Duke would barley squeeze out a win and had to sweat through two last minute shots that both looked like they were going in????? Wow I see a career in politics for you.

You could just admit it that you were wrong and Butler was every bit as good as Duke was but its probably not in your nature.

Is there any difference between Butler and Cornell ? The answer is no. Both teams didn't win the tournament. No cinderella team
has ever won the tournament. The tournament is watered down and gives these marginal teams the opportunity to catch a better
team off guard. Again, Butler lost the tournament. Whether they lost in the first round, or last round, it doesn't matter. Only Duke
goes home with the gold. All else doesn't really matter, does it.

Edmund, please start an NHL playoffs thread wherein you predict the Blackhawks will lose in the first round. Thanks.

That's very eloquent. But what does this have to do with Butler getting smoked like a cheap cigar?

Making the Final Four is considered a big accomplishment. There also have been lower seeds than Butler that has won the tournament.

    Absolutely nothing.

I can tell you one thing....if you want to look at sports in terms of just for pure entertainment...this game was about 10x more exciting and entertaining than nearly every BCS national football championship game played in the last decade.

Michigan states Korey Luscious said it a few days ago and Tom izzo has said it several times. Many players over the years have said it.

Forget it guys he obviously is just trolling now and doesn't want to actually have a conversation.

    Edmund-
You often seem like a tool and your inability to just admit you were WRONG in this instance makes you seem like a bigger tool. It's not a huge deal here. You predicted Duke would put a whooping on Butler. It didn't happen. Not a big deal. You were wrong. We all make predictions that turn out wrong. We all make mistakes. No big deal. Most of us are man enough to admit we were wrong and we move on. You keep replying to this thread by talking about other stuff, and trying to shift the topic, which makes you seem like a bigger and bigger tool. Just admit you were wrong and we won't badger you anymore about it. Here, just copy and paste this, "I, Edmundfitzgerald, was wrong in suggesting Duke would smoke Butler like a cheap cigar. I erred so I am human."

I wonder what the OP would have to say if the half court shot by Butler at the end of the game went in [giving a 1 point win, plus the National Title, to Butler] instead of bouncing off the rim.

A one point win by Duke [with multiple lead changes, no lead bigger than 6 points and the game not decided until the final buzzer] does not under any circumstances constitute "Duke smoking Butler like a cheap cigar".

The game was one of the most entertaining and compelling title games in quite a while [great defense played by both teams; and the only thing that would have made the game more enjoyable would have been if both teams had been able to make more of their shots and free throws in the face of stifling defenses].
