Old 25.19 ounce 999 fine silver bar, chances these have been drilled and filled?

Any obvious way to tell? Having my brother pick one up for me for me and was wondering how obvious these alterations are. Thanks------------------BigE

Highly unlikely -- we've only heard of 100 Ounce Engelhard bars having been drilled and filled with lead.

It's possible, of course, that other sizes/brands could have had the same done to them, but it is highly unlikely.

I was suspicious of a 100oz engelhard and they told me it should ring when you tap it lightly. If it makes a dull thud it might need a closer look and a little more caution.

A dull thud may also indicate a good bar with some air bubbles trapped inside. These bars were cast after all.
