09s VDB MS63RB pricing help

I'm still on my search for a certified 1909-s VDB and came across an NGC graded piece which I have yet to view.

Might I ask for a correct pricing range for a NGC graded piece? From my experience they are a bit softer in price than PCGS.

Thanks for any help you can give from recent price experience.

It's hard to price these based on grade alone IMHO. Unc S-VDBs can look wonderful or downright fugly and the prices always reflect that. The last NGC 63RB sold on Heritage for $1840 with the juice, but less than 2 months prior to that a 63BN sold for just over $2K. PCGS 63RBs have been between $1800 and $2200.

Good luck on acquiring your piece.

    Really.......... T.....A.....K....E

    Y....O....U.....R

    T....I....M.....E..

There is no shortage whatsoever of these,
RB stands for Really Beautiful, Red Brown, Raunchy Blech, Rong Buy, Right Buy

You can get all of those in that grade/designation in an SVDB.

Things to look for........Avoid Spots. (keep that in mind and try to avoid Spots). * REALLY* avoid spots that sit on Abes nose or in another important place.
Discolored toning patches often signal "old work" on the coin. You want to see little patches of nice crisp old red still nestled in side the lettering NOT red on the fields and dark into the lettering. Strike is not as crisp as you may think BUT it is very important on the SVDB that the initials on the reverse are well and fully struck up, periods included.

look at a lot of these and try to look at them in hand, or buy from a trusted dealer. did you see what Angeldees has to offer currently? Despite no pictures he is a top flite dealer and can get you a PQ coin if you call him and ask. While Price may seem the important thing...really, its not. Quality is.
  • I appreciate the guidance on price and diagnostics.

I've been looking for about 8 months now and viewed a good number of pieces.

Just getting back from viewing the piece, it has a beautiful reverse with strong strike and some light browning on the obverse.

Showing my age, but I still can't believe these are worth more than $500 in 63 grades. There are so many of them around.
