The Philadelphia Eagles bid goodbye to longtime QB Donovan McNabb on Sunday when they traded the six-time Pro Bowler to division rival Washington Redskins. The Eagles' brain trust released the following statements about McNabb, who had been the team's starter since 1999.
Owner Jeffrey Lurie:
"Donovan McNabb was more than a franchise quarterback for this team. He truly embodied all of the attributes of a great quarterback and of a great person. He has been an excellent representative of this organization and the entire National Football League both on and off the field. I look forward to honoring him as of the greatest Eagles of all-time and hopefully see in enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton one day. I wish Donovan and his beautiful family great health and joy for many, many years to come."
Head coach Andy Reid:
"This was a very tough decision. Donovan McNabb represented everything a football player could be during his 11 seasons in Philadelphia. He carried this organization to new heights and set a high standard of excellence both on and off the field. We thank him for everything he did for this football team and for this city."
Team president Joe Banner:
"Donovan is the ultimate professional. He has an incredible work ethic and has been an integral part of our success. Over the years, Donovan has always carried himself with a great deal of dignity. He's an excellent role model for young men and women from across the region. In my mind, he'll always be remembered as one of the greatest Eagles of all time."

Good move for the Skins IMO
<< <i>In my opinion, it needed to be done >>
Sure, but in the division?? I don't quite understand that one. Hopefully the Philly fans treat him right on his return to the Linc.

If he loses to us, we'll cheer him...if he beats us, we'll boo the chit out of him.
If Kolb pans out (and I think he'll be no worse than McNabb), the Eagles have set themselves up to potentially be very good for a very long period of time if they hit a couple home runs in this draft. I like what the Eagles have done with Kolb, letting him sit for 2-3 years, learn the system and the league, and come into camp this year as the #1 QB. I'm not saying he's the next Aaron Rodgers, but he's on the same path preparation-wise.
he did not want to go (they felt they owed him that much) and that was Oakland and Buffalo (who could blame him there?).
Skins are going to be much better QUICKLY. coaching issues resolved, and McNabb proved is can do a lot with a little. Heck, the Redskins barely lost so many games just due to horrible offensive ineptitude...
Fascinating.. I wonder if they'll resign him to a long term deal?

<< <i>I'm not sure there is a more overrated QB in the NFL than McNabb. . >>
I'd add "in the history of the NFL"
I'm looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era and a Super Bowl trophy/s.

<< <i>I've been listening all day on the Eagles website and elsewhere to some player interviews, etc, and not one player seemed unhappy to see McNabb go. In contrast, when Brian Dawkins left, there were quite a few players that were obviously unhappy with that in their interviews.

That is a really interesting point... I haven't heard any negative quotes, then again, McNabb might be the last veteran on the squad at this point. Why else besides Akers has tenure?
