The first time I ever bought a new box of sportcards...was when Sam's Wholesale first started selling them locally in '86.

1986 Topps...the first sport card series I continued to purchase...for no valid reason other then it was new and I could not afford the super hot 1984 Donruss or 1986 Donruss boxes/packs.

What was your first box?

Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.

    The first complete box I ever bought was 1976 baseball. I went in and bought a fresh box in mid July and there were traded cards inside the packs. It had a pricey cost of $5 or $6. I sure wish I had that box now...

    The first full box of cards I ever bought was the 1993 Flair baseball cards. Great collation as I got a complete set including most of the wave of the future inserts.

    1984 Topps football... a Christmas present from my parents.

    I remember valiantly trying to chew all 36 pieces of gum in one sitting.

    The first box that I clearly remember was 1990 Pro Set series 1 (football). However, I am sure that I opened a 1989 Topps or 1990 Donruss Baseball box before that.

    What really matters though, is the moment where you realize that all the packs are yours to open. Not one, five or so, all of them. One of the first times where I genuinely felt excited over this was the release of 1991 Upper Deck football. After missing the boat on 1989 baseball, this was my chance to catch lightning.

    1990 Donruss in 91 or 92.

    Though I vaguely remember my dad opening a box 87 Topps and I was there to witness some of it.

    OK I guess I am showing my age here ... LOL

    I would say from the years 1965 thru 1969 (my 7th thru 11th birthdays) my parents would always have a box of Topps wax packs sitting at the foot of my bed the morning of my birthday. I'd wake up, see the box and start ripping! Man, those were such great times.

    Edited to add: To answer the question, the first time I BOUGHT a full box was probably 67 or 68 with my birthday money.

    1980 Topps baseball, way back in the day.

    Cost us a whole $7.00! Couldn't believe dad would spend so much money on cardboard!

    1984 Donruss. Thought those were the coolest baseball cards I'd ever seen. After opening a ton of packs of '82 and '83 Donruss, it wasn't hard for Donruss to make that impression on me.

    1996-97 topps chrome basketball,,, had a chance to put 10 more boxes on layaway at a walmart and passed on it,, still kicken myself over that,,bj

    My Dad worked at a place that had a small store and for one year he was in charge of buying everything wholesale. Which included all the candy, pop and of course baseball cards. So every once in

    awhile he would buy a box of '75 minis for me. He probably bought about 5 boxes total that year, but I remember sitting on the floor in front of the TV opening packs with a pile of wrappers around me

    back then. I always joke with him about what would have been if we left a few unopened. His response, "why would you want to do that?". Thanks Dad.

    First pack I ever bought was 1979 Topps Baseball. First wax box I ever bought was 1983 Topps Baseball. Bought two of them at a flea market for $8/box. Proud to say that I still have both (un-opened) sitting on my shelf. Probably never will open.

    1975 Topps baseball was the 1st I bought for myself as a 9 year old.

    My aunt bought me a box of Wacky Packs in 73-75 time frame and I could never get the "Poopsie" card for Pepsi.
