What do I do with this card (Mays / Aaron / Banks)?

Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Ernie Banks will ALL be in New York City on April 17th. Aaron and Banks will be signing in Westchester and Mays will be signing in New Jersey.

I have had this card since 1994. I had a chance to get Mays on it for $30 at the show, but that was a lot for me back then and I used it to get guys like Leon Day, Double Duty Radcliffe and a few of the other older Negro Leaguers.

Aaron is $180
Banks is $100
Mays is $275 plus $10 admission and another $10 in tolls

I only have a few cards left from this set to complete it. What do you suggest I do? Putting $500 into getting this card I think is a bit much, but do I even attempt it at all. I know that Banks is the most accessible of the three, but yeah what would you do here? Do I get just one signature on it, do I try for all three? I've seen complete signed sets of the FIRST series, this was from Series 2 (minus 1-2 cards) go for less than $500. I've had this card for 15+ years.

I realize the artwork is supposed to depict them in their Negro Leagues days, but I don't think it's very good and therefore, getting it signed by all three would be a waste of money IMO

  • no player is worth that kind of money, HOF or otherwise, the greed factor is huge these days.
  • I say go for it.

When I first heard about how priceless a painting of a girl named Mona Lisa was, I thought to myself, she's got to be some gorgeous princess.

Maybe the scan isn't as good, but the artwork is crisper in person. I'm thinking to wait until maybe Banks does a show in Chicago with a mail-in that will probably be cheaper than the $100 steiner is asking.

I guess it really depends on what you are going to do with it. If you are spending $600.00 to sell it and try to make a profit, I would say no ... not sure if there is a big market for it. If it is going to stay in your PC only you can determine if it's worth it. If it were mine there is NO WAY I'd spend that kind of money on the card ... but to each his own. GOOD LUCK!

If you have to ask, you probably have serious doubt that it's worth it and should consider holding off. If it's for resale, agreed, don't do it. You're paying for the experience in those prices and if the experience is clearly worth it to you and you will love having it and enjoy looking at it over time, have at it.

Those are UNREAL prices for autographs, especially when you can buy a certified auto on EBAY for around $50-60. UNREAL! I guess the bottom line is if it is worth that kind of cheese to you, if so rock on brother.
  • I say go for it. I only collect these three players. What set/year/issue is this card/postcard from?? Thanks and Good Luck!!

Personally, I'd rather have 3 baseballs that I got signed - one for each of those guys.

Or, I'd just buy some cards with their sigs instead.

If for investment, I'd rather spend the money on this: Better value

    Just don't open it! image

It's from the Ron Lewis Negro League Legends Postcard Set Series 2 which was issued in 1994. There were only 10,000 made. I got most of the set TTM / IP since that time. I'm down to about 4-5 players not including the three on this card. I might have to settle for getting one of them to sign it and leaving it alone. It's just too much money to have all three sign it.
