Need a bit of help........Jefferson nickels and a weird plastic holder
My neighbor has a collection of Unc and Proof Jeffs from 38 to 70. 16 Proofs and 42 Uncs. The proofs are nothing
special and are from the 50's and 60's and 1970. The Uncs are nice and a couple with color but nothing that I could
see was spectacular. No D/S, dbl Montecello, or errors that I could see. Obviously not a complete set and they are
mixed, uncs/proofs. The war nickels are nice but I don't think that nice.
Here's the thing. The local coin shop offers him $110 for all 58 coins. I think that that is a jump on it price but he
didn't and brought them back home and then called me.
They are in a plastic folder that opens like a book and has two pages that are clear plastic with little removable capsules
that hold the nickels. It's made by an outfit out of Chicago and is called "Tinker and Treasure". Patent pending. He's had
the folder since the late 50's or early 60's and said he got it in Indiana. I've never laid eyes on one of these. Beige in color.
Sorry, no pics. But has anyone heard of this "book" or "folder" and does it have value that I don't see and that's why he
was offered the strong money?
He was also offered 11¢ sight unseen for wheaties. That's nuts. I looked thru them (258 cents) and all but a few from the
40's and 50's and the few were not keys and worn heavily. Nothing of note there.
He's got 56 mercs, no keys, that he was offered $1 each. Okay, I can see that.
What say you?
thanks,
bob

Check with David Lange. He is the king of albums.

The wheaties - I don't know what's up with that. Maybe he has a buyer lined up that says they'll pay X amount for wheaties whenever they come in.
war nickels are worth $4/ in unc
I wonder if album is similar to 'coinmaster' - which had PVC causing pages and turned many great collections into green slime
I think they originated in Chicago, and the ones I have seen have similated wood grain plastic covers
If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.

<< <i>Am I missing something? You say that he says he's had the folder since the late 50's-early 60's but has dates up till 1970. Something doesn't add up. >>
No? He bought the folder when he decided to start collecting nickels and then bought the Uncs and Proofs to put in it. How is that so strange? Am I
missing something? Maybe I was hearing but not listening?
